Rego is around $321 for a bike and $248 for a car. This includes a compulsory Accident Compensation Commission levy, which is a type of 3rd party insurance that covers medical and related costs in the event of an accident.

The WOF (warrant of fitness) costs vary depending on where it is done, but is usually less than $40. It is required annually for vehicles less than 5 years old and 6 monthly for vehicles over 5 years old.

Road user charge for diesel vehicles is calculated on weight and paid for by distance. I by 10000 km at a time for my diesel at 3 tons and that costs around $350, so about half that for $5000. If you go over the distance the standard fine is three times the cost of the charge that you have missed, and you still have to pay the charge as well. Most cops are reasonable and will give you grace if you are just a bit over.
