    Help Danny Cancian

    Hi people .
Many of you will know me and what i am about , a very good friend and my (and the teams) major sponsor is in all sorts of trouble in China.
He has tirelesly assisted me and the whole Shower Buddy Team prosper in racing now for 5 years and i feel deeply for Danny's family as they deal with his situation.
If you are able to i know his family would gratefully accept your help to get Danny back home where he belongs.
Read , ingest and if possible donate to what i believe to be a very worthy cause .
Thanks and to all of you , stay safe and take care .

I'd seen the article on Danny quite some time ago before he'd been sentenced and wondered what had happened with all that. I almost PM'd you a few months back because of the sponsorship then thought it really wasn't a question to ask. I wish his family all the best in working through this system.

It does appear that Danny's actions have resulted in what we would call here manslaughter and it seems on the face of it that 5 years may be lenient. Manslaughter no matter where it occurs often seems a tough sentence.

By and large it seems we get a good run out of the Chinese Justice system and there are many of us travelling in and out with no incident.

I accept that their system is different as is Singapore's or the US etc. These two jurisdictions seem to have much tougher sentencing.

I would encourage the family to lobby the NZ Government for help.

There seems to be some contradiction in the report with the family being reported as saying they have to pay a certain amount of money or Danny will get a longer sentence. But later the report is that Danny has been directed to pay compensation to the victim's family. This being the case it seems to me that maybe this is a case of "if you do not pay the compensation then they will give him a longer sentence". If this is the case then serious questions have to be raised about the way this has been reported.

I don't believe China has the social welfare system that we do and therefore this victims family will have lost the income earner.

The statement made by the Labour MP that the Chinese Justice System is usually lenient to foreigners seems like it may actually be true in this case.

I wish the family well. It must be draining dealing with a system that we don't know or understand and where English isn't the main language.

We decided to support the cause on the basis that there is a family in China that deserves to get support as much as Danny does because I'm not a fan of seeing a Kiwi in this situation.

    Thankyou.
There is indeed a large gap between NZ and many other nations in respect to the laws and the way they are enforced and interpreted.
The underlying issue in this case for me (and i mean me personally) is the fact the injury may not have resulted in a death if the attacker had not been removed in a manner thought to have caused further damage.
There is many many stories floating about what did and didnt happen and i feel a few eyes were opened up by the Sunday programme. It brought a few facts into the open which may have cloaded opinions previously.

Please be aware i am not representing the family but as a very good friend i am wanting to assist as i can and make as many people aware of the plight Danny and his family is facing.

    Thanks
    Paul.

    +1 please.

Googled his name which isn't very flattering - but I'd like all the information.

If you can spare the time , watch the video clips on the link in the first post.

They should give you a better understanding.

    Thanks.

He was attacked while having dinner in a restaurant... Danny defended himself and the end result was that the other dude (chinese) got pretty hurt, and subsequently died later that night.

Danny is now in jail for murder(?), although as stated it was self defence, and there is good reason to believe that if the guy who died hadn't been moved before paramedics arrived he wouldn't have died.

Watch the videos, it's a bit hard to describe without being long-winded.

Pretty much seems like he got jumped by some guys on behalf of another geezer who had a beef with him. They were told a bullshit story about an earlier incident, attacked him with a chair and stuff. Danny defended himself and the initial attacker died several hours later. Everybody including the judge seems to agree that he was justified in defending himself, but the judge believed the force used was excessive. Seems to me that the force used was exactly proportianate to the initial attack. The result was unfortunate for the dead guy. I guess he missed the lesson at school where everyone was told that if you hit someone they might hit you back.

I've had the missfortune of dealing with both Anthony and Paul Cancian over the years. Having never met Danny I can only assume his demeanor was the opposite to that of Anthony's an Paul's........ Otherwise this would be termed Karma!!!!!

I trust as you have stated your close friendship and his sponsorship of your racing he is a top man, just caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I wish Danny and his partner a speedy result.

Many people have asked me over the last few months if i'm riding the Showerbuddy bike this winter, thanks Paul for highlighting the issue as to why i'm not, due to our main sponsor's plight. Unfortunately there are only a few people on this earth who know what really happened, and i'm not judging a chinese judicial system for a half day trial with only a judge and no jury, but what i do know is that Danny has supported Paul and as of late myself in our racing passion. From the few meetings i have had with him and his family, he is a kind caring and generous person. Please visit the website from the first post and if you can help in any way, it would be appreciated by many who have been impacted by this event.

I have decided to deleate this posting after talking in P.M. to Investor. I do not know his / her identity and may never know but i accept the appoligy from Investor regarding thier post.

As i was questioning the integrity and accuracy (not to mention identity) of Investor i decided the context was wasted on this cause .

    Thankyou .

Reminds me of my Dad who's a bit of a "character" and prone to finding himself in "situations". Still, it sucks to legitimately defend yourself and to then be left in the shit. I hope that the Chinese lawyer in the Labour Party can make a difference. It is the kind of thing that could happen to any of us.
I remember seeing too that it is normal for chinese to pay restitution to "victims" and it is considered offensive not to.

Your bloody correct about the long winded bit , i cant get over the length of time it takes to get anything done overseas, and reply communication is almost nil.

    Thanks Paul.
