Attn: Jackson Street / Petone Riders!

Recently I copped a parking fine and called the council, and long story short (despite the fact that several users have told me there is motorbike parking - whether this is improv. parking or legit I'm not sure) two council members I talked to told me according to them / the council, there is in fact no motorbike parking in the area.

So! They have said to me they are more than happy to put some into the street, and so asked me to ask other riders, where would be an appropriate spot/s? Wayne King, the man I talked to, seemed confident they would not conform to the 60 minute parking rules for the rest of the street, due mainly to the size of bike parks.

    Ideas?

I would suggest half way up Jackson Street, preferably close to a bar, like Murphy's.

Councils often seem to use the left over bit around crossings for bike parking, I think that would suit in this case as there is a crossing near murphys.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll have a look around the area that's been suggested because it does sound very reasonable I'll get back to this thread with updates.

Hutt City Council needs to receive letters regarding the parking situation for motorcycles. They need to know that you have recieved a parking ticket, and also that there is no parking and that if there is no allocated parking what are you meant to do. Find a name - post it here, and I am sure a few of us can send letters to raise the isssue.

While some people might find it amusing, I'd like to remind everyone not to turn this thread into a personal joke at the expense of the man who has been very quick to try and assist the biker community. Thank you!

    Hi guys,

I work with Wayne King, although not specifically in the same team. Wayne has asked me to post this here as he would like to foster communication between yourselves and Hutt City Council on this matter.

"All the P60 Parks in Jackson Street are vehicle or Motorcycle parks. I think the real question is whether Council would consider making All Day Motorcycle Only parks in Jackson Street, and the answer to that is “Yes, where?”. If your group can identify a need and a desirable location, Council will try and provide spaces accordingly. We have recently made similar provision is the Lower Hutt CBD. It is quite correct to say that there are often small spaces unsuitable for car parking that can be converted to Motorcycle Parking (without time restriction), nor loss of vehicle parking.

Council would invite your suggestions. Simply contact me in the 1st instance.

    Thanks, Wayne
