    Cool

I checked out Geoffm list from his first post.

Yamaha XV 250 [Virago] 1988-94 Service Manual is in his list.

    I have a Owner's Manual for a 1997 Yamaha XV250F
    Which is a small booklet.

Is the service manual different to what I have???

I note that he has no manuals for any Yamaha Virago 250cc from 1994 onwards and yet they are still making the 250cc.

    OK first things first:
    • Owner's manuals only tell you the basic stuff like oil change, tyre pressure, chain tension, etc., were as Service Manuals tell you that plus how ta doing almost all the servicing on ya bike. It's what the mechanics refer to if they are not familiar with ya bike. How much of the work you can do yourself then depends on ya skill & experience and whether you have the tool to do the job. Service Manuals are very critical to have around if ya are able to do some of your own bike repairs (have one for "Roxanne" which helped me strip her engine down to replace the cam-chain tensioner, etc. last winter).
    • You would have to check with a knowledgeable Yamaha Mechanic to see if there were many (if any) changes to the Virago 250cc between your 1997 model and the 1994. Would be surprised if there was much changed, but still it would be risky without the experience to work on your 1997 bike using one for an earlier model. Best bet is to find a service manual that covers the year and model of your bike, and stick to that.
    • Even with the manual it is risky to work on the tricker stuff without the skill. Most Service manuals have a guide telling you how difficult the job is and what skill level is advised to do the job. I work in with my Bike Shop's Head Mechanic when I do the tricker stuff, and leave anything I'm not sure on to him. I also label each part as I take it off and were it came from. I do this as it makes putting the bike back together easier and if I get stuck, then the Mechanic doesn't end up with a whole lot of bolts and bits with no idea where they came from with the instructions "I can't fix this, can ya put it back together for me by the weekend" (this sort of thing really fu*ks a mechanic off and you'll wish ya never tried doing the repair yourself).

Some of the stuff on http://www.t4x4pickup.com/dgroup/messages/1452.html
might be useful. There is also a russian site with heaps of car and bike manuals - it might be further back in the links. What motor is it or what info do you want?

    Manuals listing

Been through the manuals I have on disk - amazing how they add up.. about 2Gb once I find my Briggs and Stratton small engine disks... more if I can find another missing disk.
If anyone wants anything, let me know. I might find some more once I delve further. Any donations of an external hard disk would be appreciated... :-)
See the attached text file for listing.
