my 250 doesn't satisfy me anymore, shes just not doing it
Put it this way, if you suddenly won $5M power ball or whatever would you upgrade your bike or buy an additional fancy one?
If the answer is "yes" then probably yes, people's bikes reflect their income.
If the answer is "no" then probably no, people's bikes don't reflect their income.
I know if I won lotto a new bike or two would be on the list...so my income reflects the bikes I ride therefore. For me, bikes are toys, and toys should never ever be paid with anything other than cash.
Depends what constitues 'nice' in your own mind. I don't consider most modern (2000 on) bikes 'nice' - the angles are too sharp. So on that basis I wouldn't buy one even though I can afford to.
One could logically extend that the fact you bought a superbike not a supercar that your income must be low...
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
I would probably keep my bandit - (I've been thinking of putting a turbo in it so I can keep up with paddy) but I would like to buy another bike as well
But I would still have to convince the other half that I need more than one bike - that's the hard bit, not shortage of funds
Lifes Just one big ride - buckle up or hang on
Yep I have surprised a few Aprilia and Ducati riders when I pull up beside them and they realise its a Buell (and an OLD one) thats been up their dates.
They ask "what have you done to that Buell?" I reply honestly "nothing, its just that those roads were twisty and perfect for the Buell, if there had been any long straights you would have left me for dead!" hey the old girl has done a few kms now and doesn't have the top end to match the latest out there but she is still a primo ride.
And as far as a NEW Buell is concerned. Mike I DARE you to ride a CR and tell me that anyone is laughing at you.
trust me, they won't be. (PM coming)
Like Sidewinder said back on the first page "you can put anything on tick these days" so age/model/brand of bike has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on a persons income.
A mate of mine has a property, a Harley, an Aprilia, an HSV Commodore, a couple of off road bikes and what does he earn? I wouldn't have a bloody clue cos he never seems to do any work LOL. Actually I think he drives a rubbish truck when he can be bothered...go figure!
...it is better to live 1 day as a Tiger than 1000 years as a sheep...
I've taken what you've been posting lately as a load of shit, and might even be one of the people abusing you.
But the simple fact of the matter is this, the '98 1200 Bandit is one of the best bikes on the planet. Very few people own them short term, and you can find them on trademe selling for more than the ugly as fuck new ones.
This coming Saturday the lotto first division is the usual $1M and the powerball has jackpotted to ~$11.5M.
If I won the first division with powerball I would certainly spend some money, but would I buy a fancy one? The answer is no. I would upgrade my scooter to a new 650 Exec, which is certainly not a cheap bike at all - but is it what anyone would call fancy?
I would also buy a bike for weekend use, I kinda like something like this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-227681560.htm and the obvious question is this: How would people judge me if that was what I was riding on group rides? Would they look at that bike as guess that I had won a total of $12.5M on lotto? Sure, I might trade up to something bigger after a couple of years riding that 650 - but does an SV650 qualify as a fancy bike that a multimillionaire might ride? There would most likely be dearer bikes on the ride that would be ridden by people with less money.
So, does your bikes value reflect your income? I would say yes to some degree, but certainly one is not directly proportional to the other.
I love owning many different bikes (mostly not all at the same time though)
last two years I averaged a new bike every 3 months. If I total the amount spent I couldve bought a 1098, but I wouldnt. Id rather have change and variety.
Na babe what i meant is there joy at keeping if not in front then at least right up my arse on something 1/2 the capacity. If a new bike was to be coming my way anytime soon i honestly think it would be a humble GSXR 750(fantastic motorcycle for the $ imho fwiw)thing is though it wont be as i get more pleasure mucking about with old ones than i ever did from buying a new one. What that says about my income ive no idea.![]()
