Could check out the mahinapua pub, south of hokitika, anyone remember the mainland cheese ads
Bin a year or too since i was there but was always a must stop while riding that area.

Blackball is fantastic. Stayed there on our south island trip with fellow KB Blackbird owners and they even baked one of our party a banana cake complete with a coal surround as it was his birthday. We were even allowed to put our bikes in their garage out back. Super hospitality and Miners Ale is pretty darned good too!

Many years ago I had an EPIC night at the Otira pub. I think. I have no memory from after the steak dinner at 8ish to the waking up tired and wake up pissed* the next day
