My speedo works but the LED display...

Has disappeared. I have since found out by trying this on another KTM. My one doesn't work on the other bike either so it has eliminated the wiring issue I thought I had, it is now the LED display.
Because the speedo sits inside a housing on the Adventure I need to replace it with something.

The new KTM computer is $1018 approx NZD....
If I bought it from the USA, same thing it would be $374.72 USD plus shipping..

Who is making the money here?
Anyway, has anyone had experience with the Vapor units and connecting issues if any? The shape of it looks perfect for the hole on the dash, I just need to find out the measurements...
Afterall, I want a speedo, neutral light, high beam, indicators and the odometer and trip meter....I can't rely on the GPS all the time.
The only thing missing would be the low fuel sensor and the oil light, i can live with out that, or use these and live without the indicator or something as Vapor provides 8 lights I think...

The price would be approx $325, then I gotta get it wired, and If I am going down that track do I get the wires cut and the redundant connections thrown out?

I am only guessing that this was the reason, but it has taken a few months to surface and as I said, it works in the background when you hold your head a certain way. I could see the speed dimly....

I've got a Vapor unit on my 640e, it's a great unit with all the functions you mention. Mine was installed by the previous owner but it's got a pertty simple loom (4 conectors for the main unit, 1 pair of wires for each of the 4 lighs on the add on dash).

As for size, with the added dash lights its 140mmX65mm

I recall someone over in advrider.co talking about dunking his LCD speedo & having the same issue. Turned out he had some residual moisture in the speedo & got the screen back when he dried it out properly. I think he packed some silca gel in there to stop reoccurence.

From what you are saying then, it is almost a perfect size for width and a little light on the height which means it will fit mounted on the inside of the hole with a little head space....

I took it out, took it apart and did the same. It was in three parts on the bench. I hooked it up in bits and it worked intermittently with a bit of coaxing, which made me think wiring. I left it in, rode and gradually it died over a ride to the non existent display. It still made me think wiring or broken wires, split or similar. Having put it on a 640e, it must be the speedo itself, or rather the LED part of it. Unfortunately I cannot just replace the one board or the screen, this is all a one piece unit joined by straps/bands like a hard drive and solder etc....

Performs well and keeps the data when key is off etc, just like the real thing? The set up you have is perfect, high beam, oil, indicators, neutral.
That is what I need....minimal.

Not related but seeing you have the same machine. I am stumped...
Can you tell me where this goes on the bike, I think it gathers the fuel cables or similar and is on the left side of the bike?
I have the manual, the spare parts, photos of the bike but it isn't anywhere to be seen. My mechanic left it hanging when I picked the bike up a few months ago and want to put it back on, it secures somewhere...

Have a look a tour bike and can you explain where please? many thanks.....Crazyfrog told me but I didn't understand fully..

They are so small, I don't even know which soldered parts are for the LED display.
There are 14 wires that feed into this unit, these are all accounted for, so the LED must be fed off the unit somewhere inside. I am thinking the strap or one of them, but these are soldered in place not the usual plug in type.

got a vapor in my katana... works really well...

apart from the rev ounter... it goes up the shit sometimes bounes around...over reads...doesnt read at all etc....

word on other forums is you put an inline resistor in...

and it apparently fies it... the rev ounter wire for the atv kit has a resistor wire.... so see if they can swap it for one of those wires for ya.

I might actually go for the Vector, which is the one without the rev counter. I have the rev counter on the bike already
