Don't most of the heavy trucks and big buses cross the centre line on a lot of the corners going over there?

Or have they fixed them too now?

Let me explain my comment further. Bistards outrage hit the nail on the head.

Like many of our roads and the accidents that happen on them, it's not the winding or narrow road's fault, it's not the slow vehicles fault, it's not the faster vehicles fault - what causes many accidents is putting all three ingredients together at the same place and same time. That's what causes the close calls on the hill, vehicles trying to pass slower vehicles.

I have absolutely no problem with people who want to drive under the acceptable NZ speed flow of 120 kph (just fishing for bites). Drive as slow as you want, just do it on your own time, and don't force your chosen speed onto others.

Faster traffic doesn't 'force' slower traffic to keep up (we're a fair and reasonable bunch). But slow traffic (by definition selfish inconsiderate bastards) almost always insist that all those frustrated vehicles filling their mirror must slow down to their chosen walking pace.

Back to the hill. The Rapa attracts hordes of drivers of SUVs, 4WDs, trailers and trucks. There are many places where a bike can safely slip passed these 'nice people in nice vehicles' but few real passing lanes.

This yellow lining has overnight turned most Riders into crims. What gives the slowest denominator the right to dictate the speed of all vehicles behind them.

$150 and 35 demerits for each count... last time I knew

Passing between car and yellow lines, legal, but some cops may still try to have you on.

A cop is going to have their work cut out turning and then pursuing over the Rimutaka Hill road.

Or the cop could be on holiday in a private vehicle, you pass him, and he gets his wife to note down all the regos

The first thing you even know of it, is when you receive the request for information letter

Yep this is the way it going all over NZ. We all have to toe the line of the dumbest fucktard.

I go diving more than riding these days. Legislators and over zealous traffic police have ruined the spirit of riding on NZ roads. Add to that shithouse drivers who couldn't give a fuck about everyone else, assuming of course they actually realise that there are other road uses outside their little caged existence.

Seriously thinking of getting an offroader. Now they've gone and fucked the hill thats looking more and more like a sensible option.

    RIP the hill.

That was my thought too. But it could be a stealthy move to keep it there once the works are over.

I can see a lot of bikes with illegible number plates in future. I'm not condoning that but I can see it happening.

Somebody should get out there with a big roll of black building paper. Roll it out just around the corner from them over the center line and when they are done just roll it back up again. Problem solved.

They just roadies they wont know the difference between road and black paper.

I'd hate to think of all those riders that would consider turning their plates around at the twin bridges......it might cause parking congestion.....

    I'll subscribe to that!

The dropping of speed limits, proliferation of yellow lines and insertion of cheese cutters has been gripping my craw for some time.

The fact that in general, kiwi motorists are probably amongst the most arogant, ignorant bastards in the world may have something to do with it but it really sucks.

Maybe more biker protests are in order but the trouble with that is we'd just piss off the few cagers that do make room for us and like our token gesture against the WRB's, we would do it once then it would all be forgotten.

As for passing under this regime....how many of you have noticed the frequncy that cages make room for you on the hill compared to any other piece of road in the country? It drops from about 1 in 10 to 1 in 100!

I'm afraid we are doomed and that SH1 will soon be an attractive escape route from the Capital and a ride around the bays will soon be an exciting option........
