according to police, it's more dangerous to speed than it is to cause a crash. I've known people to cause crashes, obviously dangerous, get no ticket. cops will ignore your statement if they didn't attend the crash, they won't want to pull their laser guns in long enough to write a ticket for actually causing a crash or nearly... crashing is safe. speeding is dangerous.Originally Posted by milktown

Q: Where is it Ok to speed?
A: Clearly not south of Hokitika at the moment!
Cops have landed two headline making drivers in a week both doing 180kph plus in cars WITH PASSENGERS. I make no sainthood claims about speeding on the bike but the 'with passengers' bit riles me.
Still seems a bit harsh to throw them in the slammer for speeding when no actual crash happened, no one hurt, no property damaged. Compare that to the teen charged with murdering that bloke in a Auckland motel who was released home on bail, only to run off this week. Now if he had 'sped' off from home then the entire Police force would have been searching for him, ticket book at the ready. Forget about the murder charge Bob, rumour is he was seen driving 61kph in a 50 zone the evil bastard.

Why are you riled? You ride a Z1000 so presumably go over 180km/h now and again. On two wheels. Right time, right place (like the uninhabited West Coast on most days), what is wrong with 180 on four wheels, other than it being against the law?
I see one of the guys nicked was from the UK. I never considered it speeding over there until I was doing 100mph, so really he was only 20km/h over. But it is stick a foreign driver on the front page month so what more can you expect............
It's the speeding with passengers who have no control over the vehicle that annoys me, be it in a car or bike. With passengers you do have an obligation to not put them in danger. Blasting down an empty road you are only endangering yourself. I would never speed on a bike if I had a pillion. Man the few times I've been on the back seat it has scared the hell out of me being so dependent on the rider to keep me alive. If he speeds I can't stop it. It's not like you can just step off the bike or step out of a car if the driver/rider is going too fast and refuses to slow down.

Cassina recomends speeding in Group rides......... so you won't feel the pressure to keep up![]()

Asked if he agreed he was a danger only to himself, he said: "Absolutely."
"I won't really miss riding for the next three months ... I'm a fair-weather rider."
Well, that's good to know. Just avoid riding when the weather is good...
Why?
"Judge Tony Adeane accepted there were no other motorists on the road at the time."
"It was fortunate that it ended with the rider spending the day in court rather than in hospital, or even worse, by being another statistic." said the Police.
Seems like this road at that particular time was an ok place to speed, apart from the hidden cop doing speed enforcement obviously.

When passing a triple trailer road train. If one of them is doing 90 to 95 km/hr then you need to twist it up to 120 or more so that you're not out there on the other side of the road for an hour and a half as you creep slowly passed them.
Two hundred or so km inland here in QLD, the unofficial speed limit slides up to 125. Heard of a guy that was pulled over for doing 140 a bit out the back, the cop told him to stay within the "local" limit of 125.
He seems to enjoy it when there is nobody about was my point.
