Am I a poof

I have encountered 2 Speed Triples in the last week and have had 2 wheelies bandied about my person (abeit very average ones). Now the Speed Triple has a rep for being a wheelie machine but I don't know how to do them (intentionally) and to be honest scared of doing them in case I fuck out and smash $15K of machine. I really want to be able to do a wheelie but think it might be best to buy a cheaper runabout (with grunt I guess) or a dirt bike. Am I a poof for feeling this way???



P.S. I do enjoy pushing the cornering limits and would knee down if I had sliders(my conrnering limits which aren't poofterish I think...) but the front wheel up

I'd learn on something cheaper first.
Even the pros sometimes crash when doing a wheelie.

I've got mulitple vids saved to my fav's on youtube but......

Might have to venture to an empty car park this weekend.

Anyone reckon learning on a 50cc scooter would translate to ability on the bigger machine???

I remember my first wheelies, thought I was going to go straight over. Until I got a mate to video me, and realised it was all in my head, as I was lucky if I was getting the front 2 feet off the deck. After that my mono's improved dramatically.

Disclaimer - wheelies on public roads are both dangerous to you and other road users. Wheelies, or for that matter any type of 'reckless' riding should only be attempted by professionals with the correct training, and in a fenced off OSH approved purpose built area. With every reckless action performed on the road God kills an innocent kitten.

I assume we're talking 1050 or 955i - Find a suitable, clear, discreet location. Get it up to about 35kph and whap the throttle a bit. See what happens.

Remember to cover the back brake.

It's easier on a slope.

I remeber when the street triple had just come out, and my dad said 'someone' was being 'a dick' over at the school. It was none other than your man Stretch doing wheelies and stoppies across the road in the school carpark. Apparently he lives just around the corner from me...

You definitly shouldn't remotely be approaching the balance point on such an expensive machine with no experience. Lifting the front a little under power won't hurt, but don't get clever about it. Get a cheapie pit bike and ride it everywhere on the back wheel.

Yes quite right.

Going up is quite easy, but coming down smoothly without causing expensive to repair damage to your front end is another story.

My first time was a trials bike on the sand. Easy to keep up using the back brake to regulate.

Don't mess up your bike for the sake of such a trivial thrill.
