I bought the original CR125 for $400 kept it 3 years swapped it for a TS 125 kept that 6 months then swapped it for a Nikon F camera body (back in 1978) I still have the camera with 35-200 zoom lens but rarely use it in this digital age

    I've only owned two bikes.

I bought the FXR new for $4400, trashed the hell out of it and wheeled it onto Frosty's trailer two years later for $500 (eliciting extreme finger-waggling from Mrs Random) and then rescued my Zeal from its previous owner (who I don't think lubricated the drivechain even *once* while he had it) for $2500.

$ 50 seams to be a re-acuring figure for me....

1st $50 i spent on a bike, it was a dt100, put the piston round the right way ..... and raced it for a whole season (buckets) before i decided to increase the power....
2nd $50. on a CB 550....... got it going and sold it for $200 (didn't trust my rebuliding skills)

3rd $50. was on the scooter that i have now, the one that luke keeps on falling off... had it now for about 3 years.. still going strong...

Free - some little 100cc Suzuki which needed a little work. My brother fixed it up and his son learned to ride on it.

Free - GSX250 with knaffed engine, spent $290 on a second-hand motor, $60 on a new set of carbs, dunno how much it's going to cost me to get it to run for more than two minutes at a time...

Often spent "a dollar a cc" on some of the bikes I've bought.

Okay for some reason Kiwibiker's refused to let me create a thread for the last two days...

So I'll talk about my new ride here.

It's a 1996 Suzuki RF900RS, a little more kms than I wanted to get, but still quite reasonable for this bike and its been incredibly well maintained so I'm happy with what I got.

It's got brand new rotors, near new Metzelers, Z3 front Z4 rear, new battery, a good newish chain and sprockets (can't see the front one but) and some lovely heated grips that will come in handy for winter as the temperature in Upper Hutt regularly dips below 0°C. An yup, it's still got the tank bra, and the original owner's manual and toolkit.

I'm waiting for AMI to get the cheque for the FZR750R to me and I will pick up this sucker - the wait's killing me ... not to mention the train trips.

But it will be worth it. It's the American Model (E-03) which means it's the full 118 horses at the rear wheel (135 at the crank apparently) and a MPH speedo which will take a bit of getting used to - especially as how 100 comes up reeeeealllly quickly and smoothly.

It doesn't pull any harder than the fizzer, which derestricted was about 105 at the rear wheel, but it seems to pull that hard for a bit longer, which as a 9 year newer bike and 187cc bigger it should.

Anyway, hope you aren't pissed for the thread hijack. Just wanted to share my joy.

As for what I paid - let's just say it's $50 more than the insurance company gave me for my 1987 FZR750R...

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

$25 for a 1981 CR125 with a TF125 engine in it, then $100 for a PE250. Both suffered from the same fault, moronic owners who put 30-40 in the tank then let it settle to the bottom and ride like nana's at 2000rpm so they had fouled plugs/carbs/barrels/pipes. a good one day thrashing and they ran like new (all that oil did something good)

heres the PE, the RM/TF was by far the cooler bike (although the PE was plenty cool for a 14 year old
