Red Bull X-Fighters Exhibition Tour coming to Manukau City

    For immediate
    Release 19.01.10

The Red Bull X-Fighters Exhibition Tour is ready to perform an exhilarating show this Saturday at the final round of the NZ Supercross Champs, The event is taking place at Auckland’s Telstra Clear Events Centre in Manukau City, and the Freestyle Motocross (FMX) riders will be performing tricks on their motorcycles for the crowd during breaks in the Hynds Pipe Fox Auckland Supercross.

The show is expected to be of the finest standard as Red Bull brings in the best riders in the area for the event. New Zealand’s reigning champ and long time Red Bull rider Nick Franklin will be joined be Australia’s current number one rider Kain Saul and Palmerston North’s Ryan Laskey to create an adrenaline pumping show.

Franklin, who constantly travels as part of his FMX career, has a reputation as a solid and innovative rider. He has been a leader in New Zealand’s freestyle industry for many years and holds the current New Zealand FMX title. Spectators can expect to see Franklin pull off even the hardest stunts with precision and style, even whilst upside down in mid-air completing back flips on his bike.

Levi Sherwood, recent Red Bull X-Fighters champion, will also be on hand signing autographs and supporting his fellow riders while recovering from a knee injury. Sherwood (18), also known as “rubber kid” because of his amazing talent and flexibility on a motorcycle while performing tricks, made a name for himself this year taking the win against the world’s best at the Red Bull X-Fighters in Mexico – his first ever major competition.

The spectators will have a chance to see the full extent of the Red Bull riders’ skills and get a taste of the internationally renowned X-Fighters World Tour. Gates open 3pm, with a pit party with Red-bull, Ilabb and the rock on site. Racing and FMX show starts at 5pm.

Tickets can be purchased from www.ticketdirect.co.nz or selected motorcycle shops in Auckland which can be viewed at www.supercross.co.nz.

Awesome night Scott. Well organised and a good track that seemed to hang together well - didn't see any of the deep ruts that plagued the Hamilton SuperX. That whip comp was impressive - especially young Haki (14 years old!..)

Cool event, thank you to the organisers who put it all together (and the casual plant-operators, of course!). Lacking the razzamatazz of the Hamilton SuperX, but none the worse for that, as a personal opinion. A nice family event without any hooligan element in evidence like in Hamilton. It was great to get next to the barriers - so close to the racing and feel the thump as they hit the triples. Autographs were good, especially BT & the Kawasaki team. I reckon Haki Waller would have been the one in demand if they'd done the signings after the whip comp!

Only comment would be the lack of trade stands for folks to buy stuff, but that's an excercise itself, so I understand. maybe team Tees for sale? ilabb had a cool tent with little KTMs for the kids to sit on, Playstations with an MX game, etc, plus some tees for sale. I think their graphics kits are really nice-looking, but I don't get their advertising. I must be getting old...

FMX was a little on the conservative side, but the wind was obviously causing a few dodgy moments for them, plus they'd tried to use the building as a wind-break so the ramps weren't in the best place to see them, and they had to fit in with the SX track. They hit all the tricks and did a dozen backflips, but it was almost like they were clenching their buttocks every time! I guess you'd do that anyway - not that I'd know, I'm a lot happier with solid ground under both wheels. Crowd was quiet (we got a lot of stick for that from the MCs) but it's hard to shout with your chin on the floor, you just dribble.

65cc class was brilliant. Lots of determination shown and they improved every race, hitting the jumps harder & getting more in the groove. Future stars in the making.

Lots of plaster and bone-scaffolding in the crowd, which is a side-effect, I guess.

    Again next year please!
