Cops are on duty 24/7 AFAIK but the Highway Patrol seem to have operating hours. Most are off the roads by 7pm in rural areas but they still do checkpoints and I have seen them out in the city in the wee small hours.

I have to listen to people at work telling me that only HP cars can give out tickets. WTF. Cage drivers. Any cop can ticket drivers AFAIK.

I have personally witnessed police traffic patrols working the Desert Road at 6am on weekend mornings.

If you want to go fast then the major state highways aren't a great choice.
The greatest pleasure of my recent life has been speed on the road. . . . I lose detail at even moderate speed but gain comprehension. . . . I could write for hours on the lustfulness of moving swiftly.

    Yer right - 9 to 5 only.

Everybody knows that no crimes or crashes happen outside those times.

I work nightshift (5pm-5am) driving around the Auckland central area. I can say with certainty that police are patrolling 24/7. The early hours of the morning are the worst time to speed because it seems that there are the same number of police cars but less of everyone else.

Actually, it is hardcoded into the matrix that a police car will spawn within a radius of 10 kms anytime anyone exceeds the speed limit. Which, incidentally, is why you are much more likely to get done for speeding when on remote roads (lower roading density -> higher risk the police car will spawn on your particular road).
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

They are always out. Crime never sleeps, nor do idiots who drink and drive, so obviously duty calls all the time.
