I use RXR armour, think its great and offers the best protection. Can be hot in summer but can wear without a jersey then

Got the Alpinestars one after fiddling with & trying on EVS, 661 & Alpinestars. It was more adjustable and just the right shape (or am I the wrong shape?). Not tested it properly yet inpact-wise, but broken bones are less painful if you don't need to fix the skin-scrapes and cuts as well.

Not had heat issues, but I'm mostly chasing after small kids and they need a break every 10 mins. I wear a polypro top underneath (an old one, keeps you warm when it's cold & cool when it's hot type of thing) and a jersey on top. I can still feel a draught when riding, so if I went faster I'd be cooler - probably in more ways than one...

It's not the cheapest, but felt the most robust.

I rode with an Azonic one for 2 years and just got a new Fox Launch one from BTO in the states. I wouldn't ride without one frankly. My evs neck guard tail fits really nice down behind the backprotector spine as well.
I don't find it to hot although I seldom ride with an MX jersey on over top. Just as cool this way than with an MX top and roost guard I reckon? Just let the breeze cool l you through the mesh in the vest. By the time you add separate roost guard, kidney belt, Elbow guards together they are not bad value.
No hassle to clean either I just hang it on the fence, dynamo it and hose it off when I do the boots and bike.
    Good luck!

I had an EVS but went to a thor after my big stack, I think that the solid plastic back protector was responsible for breaking my ribs, it lined up with the x-ray. The thor back protector is a bit mor flexible. They are hot and nipple chafing but good if you stack it heaps.
Just using the Thor roost protector now and its sweet.
