    Talking Very large helmets. YES!

Some members may know that I have a rather large head. Not large enough to cause lunar eclipses, but nearly. Buying helmets has always been problematic. For many years my only option was the Shoei XR1000 XXL with some "modification", administered using a carpet knife, ice cream scoop and a service station bollard.

A couple of years ago HJC stepped up to the plate with a couple of models that ran to XXXL. I bought one. Much heavier than a Shoei and without the features that come with a premium helmet, but not too bad otherwise.

Recently I decided I needed a new second helmet and decided to try my luck online.

    I ended up at www.ridersdiscount.com.

On Thursday 27 August I ordered a Shoei XR1000 (RF1000), XXXL, in metallic anthracite for what works out to NZ$560.00.

It was delivered today. I wore it tonight.

The fit is fantastic. I love it. It also came with a breath guard and chin screen thrown into the box.

Given the disinterest local suppliers have in doing non-standard fits, I have no qualms whatsoever in buying helmets online. And with service, quality and pricing like this, who wouldn't?

Big head or wrong size helmet?

But congrats on finding one that fits, it sure does suck when you get something that you have to use/wear for a long time and it's uncomfortable.

Is the US XXXL the same "size" as the European market XXXL, Hitcher?
I've wondered for a while whether the RF1000 and our XR1000 are sized the same

    That's one big head XXXL!

Now - is it in proportion to your body, because you'd just look weird if your are 5 foot tall .........

My sons very tall for his age with a good sized head to suit his frame - I just tell him, big head = big brain

According to Shoei san they are. Rest assured that the RF1000 and XR1000 are one and the same model.

Check out the deals they've got on Arai as well as on Shoei! For a rough and ready price comparison, divide the US price by 0.72 to see what it's likely to be in NZ$.

ridersdiscount is an awesome site. I got an HJC IS-16 helmet and a Cortech tail bag delivered last week. It took 7 days! And I got them both for NZ$50 cheaper than the helmet's NZ price alone. Shipping cost included.

I found that the sizing felt a little smaller than the NZ sizing, but I think that's only down to it being new, and my last helmet was getting on a bit.

Ha! I have the opposite problem to you, i.e. a mega pin head! See here>>> http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...post1129378258

Also have struck a bit of reluctance for local retailer to bring in an teeny, weeny lid for me. Have a couple of options but I'll check out your link if all else fails. Thanks!

I would venture to suggest that, after such modification, the Shoei was no longer a premium helmet.
