Just bought a GPX250 but there's a lot of work to do!

    Hi everyone,

I picked up (a pretty much) brand spanking new GPX250(4,000k) that has been in a frontal crash so it needs some repairing.
    (see pictures)

From the pictures and my limited bike knowledge I suspect I'll have to buy

Mirrors, front indicators, speedo cluster and maybe a new front rim? (check for rust inside the tank too?)
(I've emailed http://www.bucketsnbits.co.nz - I hear they're really good. Are there any other online wreckers that I could drop an email to about parts?)
It'll need a re-vin, wof and rego too...

Here comes the questions - How painful is it to get a revin, wof and rego? (I've never had to do a re-vin before - I'm guessing if you don't get the parts in the required time it expires)
What other things will I need to pass all of the above? i.e. what else is legally required to be on the bike?
When I get mirrors for the bike, I can't really see any way to mount the mirrors, it seems that the mirrors used to screw into the front fairing/headlight area but since that's been modded I really don't know what to do with them.

Once I get the bike in welly I'm going to take it down to the nearest kawazaki dealer and see what they say

    Thank you very much

You need to read this thread. There is some discussion towards the end about your bike.

The indicators are part of the front fairing. Although it looks like someone has turned it into a bit of a rat bike and been running with a custom headlight/windshield/indicator set up.

You will need to check the forks if they have been in a crash.

Obviously a new mud guard or plastic weld the current one.

Ask Bike Busters he has always had parts when I needed them for my GPX.

Fuck. Too good to be true.

Just out of curiosity how do you know this? Is it a sure thing?
Even though I've been a clown I'm guessing there's no way to back out of the closed auction, huh?
Sorry to trouble you but do you know how much it is to bend a frame back into position? - is that even possible?

    Cheers

Cheers, if I haven't made a horrible fool of myself I'll check it out

I think I know someone who has a rolling chassis. If you want I can give you his email. I purchased some forks off him a few months ago. From memory he wants about $300 (ish don't quote me on that) for tank + fairings and they are in ok condition from memory. Didn't ask how much for frame and wheels.

Don't panic. Patience and help from the wise here on KB will get the bike up and running. Plenty of parts available for this bike.

You could probably sell the parts for more than what you paid if you decide not to get it running.

    Thanks...

I was curious of how much a brand new engine would fetch online + other parts that a pretty much brand spanking new bike would fetch.
Okay, if the seller doesn't let me get away I'll just have to bite the bullet.

Bikebusters up here in the waikato sell their engines for $1000 but you have to give them your old one. You should get $1000 for such a low mileage engine. Might take some time to sell you just never really know.

You may get a grand for everything else depends on the condition and who needs parts!

How interchangable is the GPX and the ZZR 92" Because I have a whole bike in pieces, so a shit load of spare parts.
Rest in peace Tony - you will be missed.

About the only things the two bikes have in common are the engine (but not engine covers), the front master cylinder, and the front caliper.

    The deal is

You will need a engineers report as the bike has been written off by an insurance company. ( about $220 )
( however went i did mine, i photographed the bike sent him the headstock and trail and alignment figures )

you will need a E marked headlight ( for a vin but not for a wof? ) I know screwed but thats the rules they
play with and also E marked indicators.

    A mirror

A brake check report ( if you own a vernier and DTI you home and hosed else $50 from a bike shop )
( so you could be up for discs and pads. )

A side note I did purchase a bike from this trademe member, not all the faults where discribed however
is was a $1 reserve auction and viewing is recomended. ( buyer beware )
It has been a good project for me and my partner ( she is getting her liscence and frankly one thing I think
is you should know the in's and outs of your bike down to the nuts and bolts

end of the day after all the costs are in could have brought a better bike...

At the end of the day it comes down to whether you mind a red feedback.

Personally I'd choose that before going through with the deal.

Any motorcycle business that valued their name what be unlikely to force the issue of purchase obligation through legal channels, considering the nature of the bike's damage.
