Basic handling skills test in Christchurch?

    Hi Folks,
So I want to do the Basic Handling Test in Christchurch but I can only find 2 places that do it. The first one was "One On One Driver Training" who said try Mainland, so I emailed Mainland and they only do it on weekdays when I'm at work.
Does anyone know any others in Christchurch? or even a bit away?

    Cheers

I had the same problem. I'm pretty sure there's only 2 in chch that do it. You may be able to do it during lunch or something?? It's only 15 mins for the test

I actually only thought Mainland did it...

You often have to book the test well in advance.

    Thanks

I'll give the AA a call and find out if there are any others. If not I guess I will have to do it during the week. I'm sure my boss won't mind, it's for a good cause

Basic handling skills test in christchurch?

My wife is going to get her learner motorcycle licence, and she needs to do a basic handling skills test.

Where in Christchurch can you do a basic handling skills test? I know the mainland driving school do it, but they don't seem to be open on Saturday anymore. She works 8.30 to 5 during the week so it doesn't really suit.

Is there anywhere you can do it on the weekend?

Also the mainland outfit reckoned you can't do it on an automatic scooter anymore? Is this true? It said on their website that the new law hadn't been brought in yet, but maybe it hasn't been updated lately?

    Any help would be appreciated,

I went to Mainland and used a CT110; piece of piss to ride as it uses a centrifugal clutch and there is no need to change gear on the BHS test so it's basically an auto on the test.

When the wife did hers a month or so ago the said the new law was due to come in September or October I think it was so I guess the could be right.

I guess the ringing them to see what they offer is the answer.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

What about the Allstar driving school?

Although their website is very crap it could be worth emailing them.

I sat my basic handling at Mainland last year.
You can't use a 50cc automatic scooter (I rode mine to the test, so I should know).
I did my proper test on the CT110, and like SMOKEU said, it may as well be an automatic.

I have never heard or read of anywhere else in Christchurch that does the test, so I think this might be an occasion for your wife to get some time off.
    It's annoying, I know.

Where to complete your Basic Handling Test in Christchurch

Just an update on motorcycle training and tests in Christchurch. I was the head instructor at Mainland, but have just brought the motorcycle part of the business. We do mainly do the basic handling tests weekdays, as we try to keep the weekends for the full day on road courses or track days, when you would need a full day off work rather than a hour or two, but have now started to stay open late a couple of nights a week for those that really can't get time off work. I now only do motorcycle training so we can normally get you in the next day, the waits have gone and the test is indoors so no worries about the weather. Check out the new website. www.motorcycleschool.co.nz
