    Paekakariki Hill strikes again

Second time in a month I've gone for a short run and come across a car of bogans crashed. This time I was 20 odd seconds short of being taken out by their car flipping across the road.
Four blokes smelling of booze, no seatbelts on. Three were thrown out of the car that ended up on its roof. How do drunks have such survival luck? Two were ambulanced off but nothing life threatening. I spent over an hour comforting their pitbull that got thrown out over a fence, hit a branch that ripped deep into its side and its rear legs were broken or its hip/back broken. I can't stand pitbull/vicious breeds but this fella was in sad state and I'm an animal lover from way back - even checked the budgie was Ok in the boot of their car!. The dog's injured owner who was bleeding badly from a head wound told me to be careful "he'll attack ya if he can" The owner was too hurt to get to the dog. Poor dog was in shock and seemed to know I was trying to help. Held a shirt on his wound for awhile then a nurse took over. She also felt more inclined to care for the dog than the bogans, one was getting agro and swearing at people until Mr Plod sorted him out.
Finally the SPCA arrived and a tasty young lass who "co-owned the dog" so I left and don't know if the dog survived but we were half expecting him to die and if not then his rear end damage may mean he has to be put down anyway.

You appreciate what a top job the Cops do. Although they kept making me nervous checking out my bike and the radar on it. Apparently 23 accidents this year on that road. They spoke favourably about bikes and one said "cars should be kept to 75kph and bikes allowed to go 100kph here", "only bikes can handle these sorts of winding roads without crossing the centre and you guys know the risks"
So what to do for my 'short rides' if this hill road on my doorstep is too dangerous? Bugger bugger you pricks in 4wds and drunks and everyone else ruining a good stretch of bike road. Build the bloody gully road for all others and leave us bikes the ole Piecock Hill.
Sparky Bill rode past on his way home- too dangerous a commute Sparky, relocate.

My heart goes out to the dog... no seatbelts? F***ing winners. More bloody taxes down the drain. Bad enough I probably paid for their booze AND their pitbull, now I gotta pay my cut of their healthcare as well.

Having a few beers at work tonight and some prick plows through our fence out front. Around 6.00 at night, hes crossed the road and taken out a fence strainer and hit a big concrete thing. Whats more bizarre is the same dickhead crashed into our yard about 18 months ago, wiping out the same fence and never paid for those repairs. Won't be getting his car back until he pays for both lots know, scary though, its a busy enough piece of road, so lucky not to hit someone head on.

Why dont those sorts go over the bank? save the taxpayer some money!
But know what you mean about the hoons on that road - PaulinNZ and me were nearly taken out once recently by 2 boy racers racing. The 2nd car only just made the corner as we were coming the other way - his front tyre was starting to peel off the rim, dont know how it stayed on. Damn them, its such a nice ride over that rd when there is no traffic.

After commuting the Piecock Hill Rd for 9 odd nine months these stories are hardly surprising as other riders who frequent this road will well know already - honestly, some of the tossers who drive cages up and around there have zero road satefy sense, if any sense at all. I actually see a lot of older, smart looking business men type cagers, in there business like cars of course, being some of the worst offenders - they like to cut the corners even when they can't see jack shit! I'll stop now before getting too worked up and anyway I've finished working out at Kapiti last week and have a new job in town. Now I'll have to deal with traffic jams on the motorway instead :-)

P.S. if you want to go for a 'QUICK' jaunt up Piecock hill - best time of day is either mid-morning or afternoon when you haven't a lot of commuting cagers.

Are you on the black Cb I used to see most days on the hill going the other way??

Anyway, The scene didnt look too pretty. And I know the risks I take going over there rain or shine every day. I dont actually go very fast over there anymore. Too many dick heads cutting corners etc, so just enjoy the ride.
When I saw your bike at the scene MD, I was thinking "OH SHIT!!" what with all the cops around too! But glad to hear your all good, Hope the dog recovers, As for the bogans...
Well I dont really need to say what im thinking.
I will prob end up offending someone.

I seem to remember a few riders coming to grief on that particular stretch of road in single bike accidents,if the car drivers are tossers what's that make them?

Everyone's bloody quick to jump on the bandwagon and slag off the car drivers every chance they get and sometimes it's quite deserved, but when a bike goes down even if it's the riders own fault it's all sympathy

Of course when we're driving cars instead of out on the bikes we're all awesome drivers aren't we

My wife & I are both animal lovers....when I showed her this thread she was angry at the twats in the car for involving "innocent" animals....by MD's description of the dogs injuries it probally will be put down.

I used to frequent that hill but with all the crashes that have been happening lately (both car and bike) I think twice before taking that route.

Boy racers seem to be a part of todays society....most streets either have wheelspin or skid marks on them.

    Sad

Thats really sad, about the dog I mean. It really upsets me to read that sort of thing (again, the dog).

Since the drivers were "smelling of alcohol" and "wearing NO seatbelts", NO, I DON'T have any sympathy for them, and why the fuck should I???

I every so often drive to Kapati on Fri nights, and I always take the Haywards, Paramatta roundabout, Mana route in fear of Fri night Boiiiii racers wiping me out!

Because they are drunk - they are nice and relaxed on impact which minimises injuries - unlike the victims in other vehicles that they take out!

    Wow to that comment.

And yeah, poor dog. (BTW - my boy is part pitbull-staffy-ridgeback-english bully-ridgeback and bull mastiff and he is not vicious at all. It's the way they are raised IMO.)

Quite right Deano. I almost said to the chickie-babe owner when she said he can attack suddenly that they aren't born to attack, it must be bad raising by the owners.
    And happy birthday Deano
