M109R riders?

I took an M109R for a test ride yesterday. The hefty torque on tap gave the bike real character. The handling was fine for my cruisy style of riding and both brakes seemed sharp. First impressions were very favourable.

I have been used to riding a Harley Dyna (which which is good essential Harley): but I found the M109R a more exciting bike to ride and seems to offer good value for money.


I used to ride with the Auckland HOG group, who, because of the number of members, could put together a regular Saturday ride. This is a great feature of Auckland HOG. As I don't expect to be HOGGING it for a while I am keen to find out about non HOG cruiser riders in Auckland.

I am thinking about buying a M109R. I have a couple questions.


What are advantages/disadvantages of the M109R?

Are there any M109R (or similar ) riders about in Auckland who are interested in getting out 2 or 3 times a month for weekend rides-say 2-4 hours?

Try Googling "New Zealand Cruiser Group" , a few M109's, there and rides most weekends with a good bunch of people.

Advantages?

Awesome engine! Sublime brakes! Handles exceptionally well within it's cornering limits! Awesome engine! Sublime brakes... Oh, I'm repeating myself...

After riding one I was hooked and wrote a ride report for KB on it.

Disadvantages?

Watch your licence...

Had one a year or so ago. Was ok till you felt like going round corners at any decent speed. Guess you would be used to that though - from riding the Dyna.

You don't need to use the brakes for cornering because that back wheel is an automatic braking system in itself.

Dissadvantage I have heard is that thr standard tyres don't handle too well in the wet .

The 240 section rear effects low speed maneuverability only.

They handle fine normal wet - but do easily aquaplane on any surface water.

Tyre/handling in wet is only an issue with stock Dunlop tyres, change to METZLER and they stick like Glue. stick to original 240 size and they corner great,

Thanks guys for the comments and pointing me in the right direction to find other M 109ers

The bike made a good first impression. I didn't have any slow speed problems or issues with the fat rear tyre.The bike carries its weight low. The weather was fine-dry road-all in all very pleasant. I can imagine care would be required on the throttle in the wet.

Wait till you've ridden it long enough to want to start pinning the throttle on take off.

Not major - but you have to get it facing the right direction first.

On a normal rear end you can pin - then point it - a lot easier.

It's due to the square profile.

I moaned about the M109 plenty of times so I wont repeat myself hehe, but I will say I think the M90 is a better package. Go try that before you commit.

No way... i rode the M90 and brought the 109, the 90 is bearly half the bike a 9 is.

109 is where its at.

Except one of them goes round corners properly and the other doesn't.
One of them sounds like it's going to shit itself from low revs on a wide throttle, the other doesn't.
M90 all the way.

Edit: And this is why I didn't re-iterate my opinion in my first post!
