well i fell so much safer now knowing that all thoose vehicles are now lighter and carry less kinetic energy due to money now being taken out of them by all these tickets!!

Its good to see this ticketing regime has dropped the road toll so much as well, mmmm sh2........

I guess they will have more high speed chaces on their hands, and deaths because of it.

No but it does indicate how stupid some drivers are to keep getting them

Well the stupidometer must be off scale if there's three times as many now. I blame the NCEA.
Anything that puts those 11km/h killers off the road is OK by me.
Funny thing though, the road toll hasn't dropped.

Seriously though, on some of your roads that would be a moderate cruising speed. Were they in any way dangerous?

BOTH had worn tyres, one would have been a hazard at 14kph let alone 149!!

Hope you did them for their tyres then as that was the bigger risk to the public

It's interesting that the police generally take the flak for the traffic ticket situation when I think the policy itself is driven by the government. The police have a contract with the government which includes producing so many traffic hours. I wonder what the results would be if a poll was done of NZ Police and their thoughts on traffic policing in it's current state, I think it would lean towards the views of many on this board. But I guess at the end of the day the police on the streets do what they are told by their bosses, and their bosses do what they are told etc. Eventually it comes back to the commissioner and the minister of police and the contract. If we really want to change the situation we need to direct the comments in the right direction, which in my opinion is that little round building in central Wellington.

It all comes down to $$$$ people, one fatal or serious injury crash prevented is many times the dollar value of a burglary or car theft prevented- or even an assault, that's the way the polies think folk - and YOU voted them in.

However - statistically the odds of a stolen car crashing are vastly greater than the norm. So preventing car theft would in itself reduce the road toll.

And although a fatal crash may be more $$$ than a burglary, is it more than a rape or murder. And we are repeatedly told by the police that rapists and murders almost always start out as burglars (used to justify their DNA database). And plenty of examples where a burglary has escalated to assault rape or even murder .

It's the broken windows thing. Send the message, as the police are at present (police in the abstract Commissioner sense, not you guys here) that burglary, theft, car conversion is OK, doesn't count, no-one cares; inevitable result, young at risk people will embark on a trail of such crimes. Having received the message loud and clear that the law is a joke, and that they can get away with helping themselves, doing what they want, without any real risk of repercussions, is it any wonder that they then move on to more serious crimes (like speeding PT)

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
