Yea mate replaced all the valves with nice new stainless ones and a shiny new wiseco forged piston as well as all the gaskets cam chain etc.

I might pull it apart and investigate this mystery further over the weekend and when i do will take some pics of the damage.

My mate did something similar on his DRZ400 out at thunder! I can't remember why, maybe something to do with the resorvuor being full but an airlock??? in the tube or frame under it??? Blew something through the front of the engine anyway. Stripped it all down and managed to get an engineer to v out, weld up and machine the cases. Was a good job and no further problems!!

On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

At one of the first Ausv8 races at Puke, car came into pits streaming oil and the pit boss reckoned it was an electrical fault, when quizzed, he replied that a conrod had knocked the alternator off.... Hadn't heard that one before, we giggled, they cried.....

possom bourne motorsport have had similar issues, they told me the car was making a rather loud knock for a few stages, then the offical reason for retiremnet was an eletrical fault, the conrod had severed the wiring loom after if tried to exit the block,

    yes he did!
Not sure of the process and had very little do do with alloy welding. But from my panel beating days many years ago I think you have to V the joins, uniformly heat the casings, weld them and let them cool so they don't distort??? Sounds tricky but take it to someone that knows what they are doing and its pretty easy!

Yep, Reckless is right ,i have seen Harley side cases welded succesfully with this method and they came in about 8 different peices a real jigsaw ..i think the faces still had to be ground so they wouldnt leak

it shouldn't be tho, bikes of these days are made to be on the back wheel most of the time, let alone how almost vertical you can get them going up hill climbs.

I'm wondering if the bottom end just spat the dummy because it wasn't happy about the top end getting a rebuild and having lots more compression etc
