Just a helpful hint ....the road from Rotorua via Waikaremoana is a gravel goat track so if you like your chrome I would advise a different route.
Absolutely brilliant country tho, great place for a ride.

I figured it was entirely self-serving and contrary to everything I said in the other thread.

Though that may translate into public spirited....................

    OK some good replies.

The exact date can be open for debate for a bit yet but I'm leaning towards the last weekend in February.

The exact location likewise can be debated for a little bit but if not Waikaremoana then somewhere east of lake Taupo would seem to be best. A little away from the tourist traps but still accessible. It would be helpful to know for certain if there was some sort of sealed access to Waikaremoana.

As to the make and model specifics......I could be persuaded to go as far as Anglo-American iron. To be blunt it depends on who wants to give it a serious crack and who is prepared to assist.

I do believe that if this is going to really get off the ground then the final date, place and format have to be settled by the end of this month.

As stated initally - I'm prepared to lay the groundwork for a concept such as in the OP.

To make it easier to keep the discussion on track :tui:

Comment on the following are invited

Date: Proposed last weekend in feb

    Venue: lake waikaremoana

    Bikes: American or Anglo-American

The road to Aniwaniwa is dirt / gravel for miles from either direction, just not quite so many miles from the Wairoa end. The sealed road they are referring to is SH2 between Gisborne and Wairoa - not SH38 from Wairoa inland.

Nice little camp ground but. Very nice.

Personally, timing between all other events is paramount, and I suggest mid -late January.
Theres nothing on in the South Island at that time, now that the Remarkables Rally is defunct.
Lake Waikaremoana looks fabulous BUT lets make it 1 year in the South (Blenheim/ Nelson) and the next in the North (Martinborough / Paraparamu)

More central for all American Bike fans.

Fuck! I'm with you dude. Much more central, fairer etc. The Y-ra-wrapper has some neat spots to check out, southerners can enjoy the Ree-moo-tuckers on the way, good plan, Stan. I don't mind the ferry trip, late jan works, call it..!

What about Lake Ferry? I've never been there, is there any accommodation? Kapiti Coast? (Tatum Park?)

    Harley Tyres?

Any advice on the best tyres for Harleys? I have a FXD 08, did 12000 miles in the states, got back here and it didn't like the roads so I wisely took it to Crown Kiwi and had it Ohlin'd out, best thing I could have done as it now feels sweet but the Dunlop/HD's don't feel up to the change in ride ability. I have asked about all the other brands but no one seems to know much, importers refer me to US reviews but I don't think they relate to NZ road conditionsor riding styles. Can anyone pass any ideas on.

Some good comment and suggestions. Keep 'em coming.

I'm pretty snowed under at work at the moment but I'll try to distill things down to a definite date and place over the next week.

There's a bit of a scarcity of offers to assist in organising I notice.......

I always used Conti Milestones on my last one, they were "tested" a lot and I never had a problem with them.
