KTM parts pricing and availability in NZ?

Looking around at dirt bikes and have seen an early ktm 180sx 250t. Being pretty happy with honda parts access and pricing, how does ktm parts stack up compared with honda? parts pricing much the same? are there plenty of aftermarket options for parts?

for comparative purposes, how much would a top end rebuild kit cost?

there are nowhere near the same amount of aftermarket parts out there compared to the jappers or at least in this country anyway

piston kits can be had for similar prices if you go after market but bottom end stuff was expensive when I did mine last year a genuine rod kit was close to 400 prox was about half some of the bearings dont seem to be common sizes ether for the 200 at least on was around think one of the crank bearings was close to 80bucks
the ktm dealer tryed to tell me that you can't get a full gasket set for the engine that I had to buy the gaskets individually then wanted 40 bucks for a head gasket

lots of parts are available aftermarket but no way near as much as the jappers and you will pay a premium

have noticed that someone has been selling vertex piston kits on trademe fairly cheap 185 for the 200 and around 220 for the bigger bikes vertex makes the genuine pistons for ktm so these are a pretty good deal considering they are 320 from the dealer . although I don't think the y have the non stick coating on the skirt

please tell what is a 180sx?

a 180sx is a nissan semi-sports car with a turbo engi and rear drive! a 250SX is what I meant damn KTM model designation confuses the crap out of me!

well, looks as though I will stick with jap.

Hi I've found most of the KTM parts to be well priced particularly plastics and filters The Brembo brake stuff is expensive though Same story with any car fitted with Brembos The Falcon FPV GT brakes and rotors are around $4500!!!
You can look up part prices on KTMtalk.com (in US dollars) TripleXXX Motos website also has the part catalogues with NZ prices but is very slow to load
    cheers

easyest way i've found to find parts on tripple x site is to cut and paste the part numbers from the buy on line part of ktm talk

I got the full kit I think it was about $280-300??. You get everything even a selection of base gaskets so you can get the x & y measurements correct. It was the first time apart so wanted to go right through it and mark exactly where factory was on the power valve. For the few bucks I woulda saved going less I would have lost again going back for extra bits so decided to not shag about and go for the full one??
