Petrol cost analysis?

I usually fill up 4-5 times a week on my bike @ 16l (BP 98)

I do 800-1000kms a week easy, having said that now i'm on the duc i may consider doing less km's and being a cafe poser - specially with maintainence costs

On the 2 days before the KB queens Birthday thing I managed ~ 1600kms in 2 days

And who said motorcycles were cheap to run

Blimey, $400 is a hefty lump.

I communte every day and ride at the weekends, clock up between 200 - 230km's per week, at the very most the tank fill is $15.00 / week, or $60 a month

Just for Katie (who does very little commuting, and mostly country rides)

October 08: 3477km @ $400 ish (couple of $ figures missing) - she was brand new at the beginning of the month

November 08: 2363km @ $251.59
December 08: 2552km @ $260.73
January 09: 7180km @ $676.49 (that was a good month

)
February 09: 871km @ $103.08 (damn work

)
March 09: in shop for repairs...

April 09: 2403km @ $277.78
May 09: 1775km @ $216.49
June 09: 1481km @ $177.36
July 09: 665km @ $84.05 (too much work and into the shop for service)
August 09: still in the shop
September 09 (so far): 1512km @ $167.88 (rescued from the shop, I have a lot to catch up on)

Hornet probably does 15,000km a year on commuting... she gets gas, empties the tank, more gas. After a few fills, the shop sees her for half a day, sometimes needs pads, then I fill her with more gas

Have you considered shifting closer to were ever it is that you ride?

Might be cheaper paying an extra $100 rent/mortgage to save $300/week in petrol.

That's definitely something to consider to be sure.

An extra $100 (or even $200) a week in rent/mortgage doesn't necessarily get you anything much if you're talking about the workplace being in the city proper. My last boss worked in central city but commuted in every day from pukekohe. That's a hell of a lot of time/money invested but he seemed to think that the results were worth it by far, i.e. a couple of acres of grass for his kids, big 2 story modern house plus separate workshops and garages on the property that he paid less for than a family members west auckland small 2 bedroom basic weatherboard house on a 1/4 acre section. A lot of those things that he valued are simply impossible to get without moving well beyond the auckland outskirts.

Also it depends on whether there are kids already in school, whether your wife has a job somewhere nearby etc.

i have every fuel reciept in the 5+ years of owning my 600 and at each full up i record the milage on the bike, i have them all in a nice spreadsheet, which gives tons of figures and what not.

this spreadsheet is also used to calate all expenses incurred with bike, wof, rego, tires, services, etc etc.

I also record the time/kms they were done on the bike. so can keep track on how long tires last, serviceing distance, etc.

Its not hard to keep fuel reciepts when you full up, bang in them in wallet then throw them spreadsheet while at work during the week.

i would estimate only 30 - 40 bux is used on commuting so that wont help

I've spent around $100 this month so far. Get petrol every day that I ride. Weekly commute is 700km, and then add on about 70km for the Thur night ride, and whatever I do on the weekend.
