Unhappy Something wrong with my GN

Just when Im looking to sell it to upgrade as well any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok, ginny went fine on the way to cold kiwi, and went fine on the way home. Couple of days later (before it was used again) thought it would be a good idea to do an oil change, as it hadnt been done for a while. So bought some oil and did that on Wed night. Didnt get a filter cos it didnt occur to me at the time.

On Thur rode in to work, everything seemed fine. In the afternoon, hopped on the motorway to head to the SATNR meeting point, and bike feels like it is a massive vibrator when around 70-90km/h. I think above that it was just vibrating too much for me to actually realise it still was. Gear changes feel a bit jerky, and the engine braking isnt as effective as it usually is.

While waiting for others to arrive, txted a few people about it, and the general thing comes back as maybe it doesnt have enough oil. I bought a litre bottle, it takes 1.3 litres. And I spilled maybe a lil bit while pouring it in, but it should have had at least 900mls in it. So I didnt think it would be that. Bike performed like crap during the ride, and was a bit hesitant to ride it to work the next day. Slept in so had to though. Still not running as it used to.

On Sat went to Colemans to test ride the SV, and while I was there bought some more oil and a filter. Got home and did another oil change with the new filter (not sure if that was a good idea or not). So bike has new oil and new filter, and Im not even sure if it was that that caused the problem in the first place, but it still feels like Im riding a vibrator. Not the nice kind.

    Any suggestions?

My bikes, in the past , have always taken more oil than specified. I would check your oil level ASAP. Use the sight glass on the side of the motor. Sit on your bike on a level surface, like you are going for a ride, then get somone else to have a look at the level in the glass. It should be a least half at the best at the full mark. If it is not showing then top it up.

Ps Too much oil is as bad as not enough oil. Too much and the crank shaft airates the oil making it's viscosity (slipperiness) nowhere near good enough.

Run the bike for a couple of minutes then hold it upright (not the main stand or the sidestand) and look through the sight glass on the RHS, after a minute it should sit at midway to full on the glass. You may however find you're missing a mounting bolt/something else is loose or simply the imagination is the cause... cant tell without seeing it

After doing this, it looks about halfway full.

could it be unrelated to the engine? wheel weights falling off etc, does the vibration occur at a certain speed, over a certain speed, all the time, at certain revs etc...

Ive noticed that its from about 70km/h onwards, did look at the revs but cant remember what they were at. Shall do that tomorrow I suppose.

if its from 70k onwards my guess would be wheel weights have fallen off, or wheel bearings, maybe even incorrect chain tension. I rode off with a disc lock on my bike once, (it has the inboard disc brakes so i had to chuck it on the spokes) turns out it didnt stop the wheel spinning got to bout 30k and the bike was shaking like a bull in a blender (which is to say, lots), mind you the disc lock did weigh 1.3kg.

I personally would first replace both the spark plugs as they are not expensive as it is likely to be just a coincident that it showed up after the oil change. You have nothing to lose by changing the plugs. Vern

As Bogan says. I would look at the wheels, tyres, chain etc.

At least you will be enjoying riding it ,he,he. Try determine if it is speed or rev related. If speed, it's probably running gear related(wheels, chain, sprockets, etc). If rev related its engine( spark plug , eng mounts, etc). Check over all the bolts.
You should have kept it a secret that you are planning to replace it.Mine decided to break when I was looking to upgrade, sneaky things them bikes are.

OK well after my ride today, I think Ive come to the conclusion that it becomes a vibrator at around 5000 revs. When Im going 100km/h its usually at 7. Redlines at 8.5 in case anyone wondering.

Not told it I was replacing it.. yes it probably knew I was going test riding on the weekend and tried to sabotauge it. lol
