Depending on if they held powers of arrest, MD4.

I have seen many Defence people there over the years......

Best bet is to go with someone who knows the area already. It is awesome riding out there especially on a racing quad. It is better to go out before the tide comes in so you are up there when the tide is in. Then come back when it is going out. Gives you a bigger window to get back. Midday tide in is the best. Leave in the morning, come back in the arvo.

Take a support vehicle and extra gas if you can. My YFZ450 tank only lasts about 3 hours up there, and it can take between 30 mins and 45 mins to get up there and its harder coming back because you're riding into the wind but it is worth it.

Don't listen to these party poopers. Sure its a long ride up there but if you can take gas (or a support vehicle) then its nothing to worry about. I have never hit a bomb up there (yet), surely these days they would make sure the bombs are completely detonated so you only got to worry about old ones. I've watched them before they have firetrucks and all sorts up there. Only ever heard a bomb once and it was big. If they are bombing they usually stop you half way up the beach but you can always double back, head into the dunes and play on them instead of going into the range. If they don't stop you then it is best to stick to the dunes, head up the biggest one that has the view into the range. Look carefully and if there's no one there and the flags aren't up then sweet. Stick to the tracks and you probably won't hit a bomb. Dunes are more fun though.

Only cellphone coverage I have found is from the top of the biggest dunes. So best to go with someone else in case you get hurt unless you fancy climbing a 200ft dune with a bone sticking out of your leg.

No point going to the sandpit and riding the same old tracks every time for $25. Also the dune there is about a quarter the size of most at the bomber.

Also might be best to head up in the weekdays because there is less people (and less enforcement). I am always looking for someone to head up there with during the week. Gimme a PM if you (or anyone else) wants to head up there sometime (in the week).

I don't know why people are complaining about rides getting shut down, woodhill forest don't own the dunes or the range do they? Forest trailblazing pretty much sucks for quads anyways so I don't usually go in there.

The Muriwai Beach Bitch Brigade complains about people getting hurt on the beach when really there has only been 2 incidents at Muriwai in the last 4 years that I could find. For the amount of people that use the beach, that is a pretty damn good number. It seems to me, its just the city people that move to the country and don't like the rough locals that are complaining. Need to get chopper reid in there if you ask me. :P

Hamster, so just because you've never hit a bomb that means there isn't any? You logic is pretty shithouse. Do you touch electric fences to test if they are electric? Would you drink chemicals to test if they are poisonous?

I think that $25 is a fair price to go to the sandpit. Its a well run and well maintained bike park.

Just remember, it only takes one person to complain to fuck it up for everyone.

Anyway, if you're so dead keen on riding there, why not sort it out with the defence force as an organised ride.

It is the Defence force for a start.

Touch electric fences with the back of your hand......

I have found ordnance up there but only practise rounds so far.

I mix it up and sometimes go to the bike park, I find the whoops irritating though.

Real bright spark here yeah head back and ride the dunes thats half the reason they dont want bikes on the beach dumb arse it wrecks the vegetation and erodes the dunes. And gee wizz dont you think if they stopped you they did it for a reason as for stick to the tracks yeah cause falling bombs being dropped from a plane at high speed divert away from path/track just so you can ride there bloody retard

the whoops can be a bit much some times.

i have never been to the bombing range myself but i have talked to a couple of people who have been thear and it sounds like its defently worth the long ride up thear.

it would be great if someone could run a open day up thear with a fuel truck
as this would keep both sides happy

yeah i think to ride illegally / like a homo its compulsary to have cut down guards, and big stickers over your numberboards, usually metal mulisha or large fox ones will do the trick.

rode the dunes at ahipara on sat was good fun albeit breif my clutch wasn't so happy then xen decided to do a superman
had a blast flying down a long long stepped dune into the wind each of the steps had loose sand floating over it so you didn't quite know when it was going to hit
almost got washed away a few times though big swell plus lots of wind and rain probly wasn't the best weather to be there
