Mounting an extinguisher to a dirtbike?

    Hi Guys (and possibly girls),

I want to mount a small extinguisher onto my YZF250 for trail rides through the forests etc.

Has anyone done this & have some advice for getting it in a good "out of the way" place or do you recommend carrying it in a backpack. I'd hate to fall onto my back with one of those in the pack... would hurt like hell - Not that we ever plan to fall LOL but it happens.

    Advice would be most appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Steve

The only reason I only ride in the Iron man Class is I have no friends left to enter the two man events,
    my own fault really.

I drilled two holes in the front mud guard and screwed the supplied bracket down. Then I put a cable tie around the bracket and extinguisher.

tape around the guard is all very well until your front wheel cuts the tape when the suspension compresses. as cheese says, both me and him have had extinguishers with the bracket bolted to the front guard for the past 2 years with no issues as well as a whole lot of other mate's bikes the same. i also reccommend decent cable ties to the bracket as a decent crash will break small ones.

Seen them cable tied to the frame, front gaurd, handlebar cross brace and a number of other places. Have also seen lots of them littering the first 5km of trails at rides in Kaingaroa where they were required and people had got it a bit wrong. I always carried mine in either a bumbag or camelback on the grounds that if my bike was on fire I didn't want to have to wade through the flames to get at the one thing that might help.

we used to carry them in camelbaks until my business partner had a huge crash over the bars at the Tarawera 100 a few years ago and hurt his back by landing on it,

now we do similar to Cheese and Boooom do, drill holes in the front guard and mount them with cable ties

seen 2 during my time (5 years)at woodhill as one of Gregs bike park wardens
both in the same spot about a year apart, but ur right Scott its not a normal event.. however as you will be aware some forest owners are making it a requirment, before they will allow events to be run in their forests, Carter holt were particulary anal about this at one stage .
mind you....most the small extingushers arn't worth a cunt full off cold water anyway
