    Radio debate on "dangerous motorbikes"

Easy Mix having a go at motorbike riders - "how do you stop your husband/son from riding them?" What the? Encouraging women (tacitly implied in the question) to ban their family members from riding....I rang them up and said our vulnerability on the road has to be counteracted by us riding sensibly (naff word I know but appropriate) and drivers realising that the excuse "i didn't see you" means they need to take more responsibility for their actions on the road.

As expected, because my view didn't meet the question (how do you tell them not to ride) they quoted a few seconds of me saying only that "we have to ride on super alertness" and nothing about other road users having to be more responsible. Now isn't that a nice balanced response to a caller?

"Easy Mix" sounds like a sad excuse for a radio station. Best tune into Hauraki

the type of person that listens to "easy mix" wouldn't understand bikes anyway.

Hahaha, yeah, I knew I'd be leaving myself open to that! My excuse is "it's not me who listens to it..." Well, I do, but by default". Hubby listens to it.

You seem to find it hard to believe that the media could behave like this. Having had several letters to the Herald "edited" to remove my point, or in one case to make it the opposite of what I intended, I have no difficulty believing that a radio station could do the same or worse.
The media is not interested in the truth or balanced argument.

You have to remember that radio stations need to get people emotive to make sure they stay listening and don't change stations. Because that's how they sell advertising. If they didn't think it would sell advertising they would stop talking.

The easiest way of doing this is to either upset people, or appeal to them.

    Important factoid!

The only time people listen to the radio now is in the car.

All we have to do is get it labelled a dangerous distraction like cellphones and it's goneburger.

I wouldn't get bent out of shape about a media format that is almost extinct.

Ooooo, Ooo, Oooo, sorry, channelling Sam Kinnison.

How about we all do our best to get through to December 7 without a fatality?

Oh yeah, dumb idea, you guys just carry on as before.

Haha, yeah PB. Perhaps some rock station should start a discussion among the lads how they can "stop" their girlfriends from doing "things" as well. Gee that would go down a treat wouldn't it?

I'm pretty sure these days, most people understand that any idea that they can make their partner do anything is recognised as pure fantasy.

    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

Hmm on that then are we near the extinction of talk back radio? think about it as of what 1st of November it becomes illegal to use a cellphone while driving without a hands free kit or device, surly that will be the death of this medium.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
