i find the northwestern to flow fine from te atatu peninsula to central if im out the door by 7. might want to be leaving a little earlier if further west, and you could probably polish that leg off in 15-20 mins if you were serious about it

personally i like to avoid the northern / southern motorway at all costs, though i have not spent much time on it on the bike yet.

auckland is massive man, would highly recommend trying to find somewhere closer to where you work that west auckland. may pay a little more but will save your sanity / time

Staying where you work would be a good idea. Traffic in Auckland is horrible if not getting worse. I used to ride to uni but now taking bus instead. Typically you get jam starting from 6:30 am to about 9:00 am, then starting again from 3:30pm till about 6:00pm. In some bad days you get jams all bloody day.

Your Kr150 will be awesome for spliting, but mind you you will also be facing reckless cage drivers.

One thing I learn from Auckland traffic is that you can observe the skid marks as you go alone- the place where you see a lot of skid marks is where people are desperately trying to cut in and braking hard- thats when it can get dangerous, so try to give cagers as much space as possible. A good example is between the off ramp around Fanshaw and Cook street. My mate's cage got pwnt there

But yea, stay close to your work place will save you a lot of time and stress...

    That would be west Manurewa

I mention west Auckland because I have a cousin there, but on the whole it isn't particularly practical.

Thanks for the info so far. That's about what I had figured, but it's hard to judge these things.

Yes, being somewhere in south Auckland would be the ideal solution, but since I'm only up for about 2 and a bit months finding a place that doesn't require either a four month min, or massive rent, is proving harder than I'd hoped (used to living in Japan where there's easy to rent monthly places everywhere). Onehunga is the closest I've found a possible candidate so far (assuming they ever get back to me). Of course I'm limited to finding places on the net since the real estate places aren't interested apparently (due to the fixed term), so if anyone has any suggestions I'm listening.

I'll be heading up around the 8-10th Oct until about the 20th Dec.

If it is 2.5months, try negotiating with some of the motels around Manukau.
Some of them might be willing to offer some weekly rent deal with reduced services.

If I had a spare room then I could rent it to you, I'm in Onehunga.

Check a Map (www.wises.co.nz) - anywhere from Greenlane down to Papakura would be an easy commute to Manurewa. Ideal would be Manurewa, Manukau, Takanini, etc.

Thanks for the location ideas, it helps since I'm somewhat geographically challenged when it comes to Auckland, having only every driven out of the city.

Even those who live there are at times geographically challenged, once they get out of the city that is... which brings me to my next point, there is one thing really really good thing about Auckland City, and thats the road North...

There is also the great amount of pleasure that you can get by riding past a huge number of cars parked on Auckland's motorways.
