Canterbury - Where are some good spots to play?

I have just bought a YZF250 and am wondering where some good spots to get used to it might be? Its a wee bit bigger and quite a lot faster than what I have previously blatted round on so am really just looking for some soft spots to get used to it on before I hit the tracks.

Any ideas much appreciated. Have had plenty of suggestions from friends, but they dont sound very legal! So some legal spots would be nice.

    Thanks

North and south banks of the waimak are pretty good.
The north side is accessed next to the old waimak bridge. Drive up river to the mx tracks there. Plenty of tracks and trails past there going north, or ride the mx tracks.

South side, go in miners bank road and park, then ride up or down river. Or park by the Gun club at Mcleans, and go in to the atv park, ride there and up river.
This is permitted riding. Watch out for 4wd or other bikes etc, its a free-for all and I know some people have had serious head on or T-bone accidents there on the shingle roads (450 riders going stupid fast round blind corners).

On top of that you can join the off road/mx clubs and pay per day to use their track.

When I was at school we terrorised Macleans Island, Ashley forest, brooklands beach mud flats, The Waimari Council set up a motocross track at the top of Harewood road next to the old dump by the airport, bet that is long gone. Waimak was the favoured. Oxford & lees valley also.

Yeah good point dent about T - boneing - M8 bought a K5 same times as me but was way slow on the MX Track so would get his kicks by pinning it up ond down the straights at the Mak - guy lucky to be alive with those dozey townies taking the pajero off road for the 1st time out there - lmfao

Waipara river - kowhai river - some nice whoop's along the beach when you go east up the kowhai.

Go Karaki beach (pines beach turn) right after going through kaipoi township from Ch-Ch) Cruise up the beach to Waikuku and roost the serious white-baiters that hangout at the ashley river

Got a mate who grew up on the peninsula - heading over there some stage to do paper roads and bays.

Raikia river not that far away.

Willows old west coast road has tracks - can do a run from Mc Cleans to willows.

Good adventure run is acess the Waimak cnr old west coast road and kimberly (darfield) and cruise up to Waimak Gorge bridge.

Anyone know if can go from Coutts island to Waimak Gorge bridge ? Is the Micheal Godfrey track available to use when they not running events there ?

    Cheerz
