Forks issue

a few weeks back i blew a fork seal, no major just another job to do.
striped them down did the seals and decided to change the fork oil to 5w from 7.5w, wich the book says you can do with no issue, but we didnt have a messurement for the centre tube, so got hold of someone and filled it up accordingly, now the forks are real sensitive espically on tree roots and sharp holes, so adjusted the clickers etc and checked how close i was getting to the stops, 80mm to go but i cant seem to get them down that far even with the clickers right on soft, and theres a slight bit of oil arround the top nut and bleeder, could the centre tubes be over full and causing me problems? and can i lessn the ammount of oil in the tubes to soften the ride up?
it was bad enough to make my arm go numb..... not cool feeling.
the forks are marazocchi on the husky, i know its not the norm but maybe danger or robert taylor may have an insight,

Why did you change to 7.5w oil? how much oil did you put in, did you measure out in mls or measure from the top of the tube? I'm guessing the forks are now not able to pass oil through the high speed part of your vavling which is why it feels shit, along with waht could be the incorrect oil height. You can adjust the amount of oil the tubes carry, but that changes the amount of air they carry to which effects other things. Thumpertalk is a great source for sorting suspension stuf out yourself.

had a messurement from the top of the centre tube and mls mesurement for the outa chamber, the handbook said you could go to 5w to give you different valving options without changing the valves.
it feels like something has too much oil in it, cos i cant bottom out the forks.
i thought by using a lighter oil would also give it a slightly softer ride.

yeah sorry read that the wrong way round, thought you'd gone from 5 to 7.5w. If you've gone to a lighter oil it's maybe going through the stroke too quick. Guess we wait for one of the experts to answer this one.

i dont think its going to quick, i think theres too much in the centre tube of the twin chamber forks, i duno im no expert on them.

Oh, I see. Showas have the bleed holes, but I guess you have to get the amount accurate, or is there another way of bleeding them?

it gets a bit vague in some areas, theres a screw in the top of the fork that the book says in big letters "do not remove"

I just read a post on thumper if it helps,seems to back up Chris about too much oil................Swapping out fork springs is not all that difficult. I would flush out the inner cartridge though with either a 5wt or 2.5wt low/0 stiction oil and that's a little more difficult while you're in there. The two biggest things to smooth out the front end I have found are to flush out the forks with a better lighter weight oil and reduce reduce the main chamber quanitity to 280-300cc instead of the factory recommended 320 IIRC. Secondly ride the piss out of the bike for 20 hours or so and then decide if you need softer springs or re-valving. Chances are if you're over 185lbs or so, the .48 springs in the TXC450 are what you need for whoops, jumps and vertical faced obstacles.

yeah i read that too, i agree with chris, i think its got too much oil in it, i might have a fiddle with it tomorrow, thanks guys, helps to bounce ideas off people might have an idea.
