My manual states that from the step in the main tube with the rod extended and a few short pumps, you should hav around 45mm oil above the step. If there is to much you will find it hard to push the base valve bit in, (don't forget tho showas have bleed hole in so you can bleed off excess oil). It also states that once the base valve is in and all bled the rod should be able to push all the way out if held horizontally, If it doesn't you have air in there. Again this is for showas, but I think kyb's don't have bleed hole either so maybe they have a similar method.

i thought id just piggyback off this thread instead of starting a new one,
im gunna change the oil in my forks as it has done a few hours now, in my manual it doesnt actually give a ML measurement it only says the air chamber measurement of 110mm, what does this mean and how do you measure it?

It means with the fork colapsed the maesurement from the top of the tube to the oil.

    Are your forks twin chamber?

Did you sort it? Was it to much oil before you put the base valve in?

    prob twin,

Only pulled single chamber WP's apart not come accross twin ones.

If they are single then fill the forks up and pump them through till all the air is out and they feel nice and smooth, then measure down 110mm to the oil from the top of the tube withe the fork colapsed. Twin is similar only you have to put the inner chamber together first with a set amount of olil bleed it through then put a specified amount of oil in the main chamber/fork the same as single. Mine was 350cc in the main forks which was about 110mm from top tube.

Your manual should say most of this.
