Nivi 265W - used in OZ recently for a tour.

This is a "Car" GPS so the Bluetooth option is only for pairing with a cell phone for handsfree calls (which actually works), but you can't pair it with a bluetooth headset (ie no getting the GPS talking in your ear, we tried and failed).

Strapped mine to the handle bars and turn the volume completely off.. worked fairly well but it still got a nickname of "Dick" dues to it odd habit over simplifing the map on the fly.

Note: the Nuvi Point Of Interest (Petrol Stations, Hotels, Motorbike Shops) etc for NZ and OZ where very hit and miss. A quick trip through New Plymouth the Nuvi found 2 bike shops correctly but was missing alot of the newer shops and had entries for places long gone. Outback Oz changes at a slower place but the busy centres change often.

Aha...I see. Given that this is the only reason I want it, I guess it is as much use as the proverbial...bastards! Funny they never told me that at the shop...I might just go back and ask them to demo the bluetooth feature with my helmet headset and then laugh at their faces when it doesn't work...

Thanks for the headsup gr...saved me wasting some dollars.

EDIT: Just checked with Garmin telephone helpline - they confirm that the 265 will not do that. Only the Zumo does...rats!

Its probably to do with how many bluetooth connections the GPS can handle at once... The zumo is one of the few that will handle two concurrent connections at once.

The helpline dude said the 265 would only connect with a phone, not a headset...but he didn't say why not...Anyway it is of no use to me in that case.

Doesn't the Nuvi work as a handsfree unit? I think when it's paired with the phone, the caller's voice comes out from the GPS' speaker

I think you're probably right there...seems there are few GPS's that will work to a bluetooth headset. Although I did find a US post that suggested the Garmin Street Pilot 2820 as one that would work - evidently it acts as a bluetooth hub and will work both phone and bluetooth headset...or summat.
