Hey Waikato Yamaha is selling new YZF-R125's.

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=245100801

Who the hell would pay 9k for one beats me. It needs a little 250 dirt bike engine in it.

    I had a dream.

Mind you it would ruin it for 600 riders yeh? Being people might mistake them for a 250 noob so they have to pull a power wheelie ta show em whats up besides the sky.
and the bike you describe will cost just as much as a 600....

"Handsome is as handsome does" is the old saying, and if you go by that I reckon my trusty TF 125 is a stunner. We have saved many ewes and lambs out in the paddock together.

    88 RGV250, 58hp, 89 RGV250 59hp (VJ21s), VJ22s crept up to 62hp. Restricted Jap import versions, 45-40hp (later years were lower).

Yes, had this argument before. Claimed crank figures from the Japanese are done in ps, which is slightly less force than bhp. So you pick up a couple of "extra" hp. I've not seen a standard two stroke from that era bolted to a dyno making its "claimed" hp at the rear wheel ever, without significant changes to porting, compression ratio, and decent spannies.

Sure they have, just because you haven't seen one doesn't mean it isn't so.

Yeah I know that, I just don't see the point in trying to make a 125cc 4 stroke sports bike.

That's because quoted power is usually in BHP, not WHP.

You might want to check the meaning of those abbreviations, he's correct in what he said.

Basically the biggest problem with them is that when they're not properly maintained, peak performance drops rapidly. Plugs, clean exhausts, clean airfilters, jetting for atmospheric conditions etc etc, all affect the output of a carb'd two stroke far more than a comparable 4 stroke (say in this example, a CBR250 or ZXR250). This is why they're generally regarded as an enthusiast bike, rather than a general consumer one.

As far as 125cc four stroke sports bikes... you should PM Dangerous and see if you can arrange a ride for a bucket meet... arse loads of fun to be had on a small four stroke. If you like, you can take in a days minimoto racing with the guys on one of my spare bikes... a whole heap of 2 stroke 50cc fun to be had there
