not my first bike...id had four or more dungers/riverhack/stripped back commuter type bikes to hack around on at our local river (dustys trail!)
but this was my first on-road bike and a ticket to freedom! that sounds
like a cliche but it really was ahhh......( fades into a haze of halcyon memories)

So I wasnt the only person with style, I only managed 110kmh before the exhaust exploded.

Flat on the tank, 68mph indicated, my sparkplug used to break down, till it cooled off abit.

    Mine was a 1979 Suzuki GT250 X7 - Air cooled 250cc 2-Stroke.

These are pretty much a good representation of what she looked like.

Erra .. we are talking 1972 when I was still at school, 3rd or 4th form !!
I had something slightly resembling this. But mine was a few neglected years old.
The rear seat didnt have any vinyl or foam so I wired a cushion onto it!
Mind you the only person I would be pillioning would have been a mate to help me push it when it broke down ... often
Tis a 75cc DKW Hobby, no idea what year mine was either.
Notable engineering advancements included : Pull Start, automatic utilising a variable speed belt drive arrangement. note pic #2
Apparently similar to some ?? modern-day-car using a steel belt.
Somehow managed to swap it for something amazingly superior an electric start Puch 150!
It was all wheels and I didnt care so long as it was an improvement over a push bike!

Shit we were the bees knees back then for sure! What a cool bunch of bikes! Does anyone have a pic of a Suzuki JR50. Now I am not so sure of the JR as it is not off oroad/motorcross at all. It was the cutest friggen bike I have ever seen, and or ridden, first bike I broke actually

It was 50cc cruiser styled bike. Raked front forks, tear drop tank, our one was lime green This would be new release mid '70's.

mate and i used to fang it out to Piha or Muriwai in the weekends he had a dr250 the 1st of the pro-links, we used have a wheel stand competition all the way there and back
My Xr had a supa trapp exhaust it was bloody loud
got pulled over for doing a 130ks on the northwestern lane splitting, nearly got away with it but one of the cars was a plain cop car (bugga)
had a bloody ball on that thing
never had bike boots but at the time i was doing my apprenticeship, work would supply us with white gum boots these become my bike boots for a couple of years until a family friend (biker cop) gave me a pair of his ex boots to wear
traded it for a road bike after falling off a few times on the road, bloody knobbly's no good in the wet

I think you mean the OR50 Mom, the JR was a 2 stroke dirt bike which was updated a few years ago.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes
