Auck - WARNING-Gravel on Woodcocks Rd (9 Oct)

Just got a txt from a mate who suggested i post a warning on here knowing how popular this stretch of road is.

Not much info sorry but this is what he said.
"...the boys did woodcocks, warn KB if ya can, gravel everywhere near the top..."

Make of that what you will, they rode it last night. Sounds like there might not be any road work signs in place cos one of the guys came off. Only minor damage thankfully so he was able to keep riding.

Sorry but that is all I know however forewarned is forearmed eh?
Also for those of you (and I'm with ya!) who love the HW16 MotoGP...well take it easy cos there was a article in a recent Rodney Times informing the public that the cops in Rodney are doing a 3 month speeding and drink-driving blitz...

I will add to this. About every road around Warkworth has suffered the same fate in the past couple of weeks, the trusty patch sealing is all over the place and not well signposted.

Have you considered, instead, learning to control a motorcycle on different surfaces?

hmmmmm...oh gosh...no that never occurred to me...oh no! what am I even doing thinking that I can actually ride a motorbike??? Bugger! I have obviously been doing it wrong for the last 25 years.

Or maybe I would rather ride some roads that aren't smothered in cops?

Did you consider that? Or did you miss that bit in my original post?

    Blitz in Rodney district.

Not 'obviously', but still, quite probably.

If you're not breaking the law, the cops won't bother you.

The road is not a racetrack.

And as if to add insult to injury the road-works *are* posted - "caution, no road markings". EVERYONE BRACE YOURSELF!!! THERE'S NO WHITE LINE AND WE WON'T KNOW WHICH SIDE OF THE ROAD TO DRIVE ON!!!!". Apparently there's not the dimmest spark of cognition in the minds of Rodney road works dept that a half an inch of loose gravel encountered unexpectedly in mid-curve is 100 times more dangerous than 5m of missing road markings and that they should post the caution accordingly. Living in Rodney and riding the back-roads over the past 10 years has convinced me that they have an evil, covert and systematic plan to eradicate motorcyclists named "road improvement".

A group of us went through one of these 'booze bus stops' last night outside Dairy Flat school. Was glad we did as the chap in a cage in front of us blew a 'red' and was consequently escorted off the road to park up on the side. One less motorcycle killer on the road.

Passed through another setup on the Riverhead - Coastsville highway on Wednesday night, so yes they are cracking down on the boozers in the north.

Doesn't work in most situations where un-sign posted patching tends to be hidden and you only know you've hit the stuff when your bike suddenly looses grip on the road.

In which case you should probably be asking yourself what you were doing riding around a corner in a way that committed you to hoping for clean tarseal in places you hadn't actually eyeballed yet.

Thankfully we don't have this warning service on the south island... we'd be buried under 6 meters of spam for the duration of the entire winter.
