A new bike and a new handle

Hey guys. The member formerly known as celticno6 here.

Along with my new name I present, my new bike.

I've wanted to post about it for a while, but no way has the site let me post new threads.

However, it seems to be working so here goes.

1996 RF900R, nice new tyres, heated grips (hand with winter coming on) a bit of wear and tear but nothing that causes too much trouble.

All in all, a better bike that I had before, and it seems to go pretty well.

Lots of people are changing bikes lately, seems to be the season for it.

Well done riffer (RF'er), glad to hear you're back on two wheels again. No doubt we'll hear about more of your escapades (positive) in time to come.

Are you going to make the same mistake of garaging this one?? jk

I think it's great that you've done so well out of your potential tragedy.

It has been very cool to hear you tripping out on the phone the last couple of days too!

Well done man (said in my best Ren voice).

Very nice. Welcome to the Suzuki fold. Those RFs seem to be very under rated.

(My old bike had heated grips and they are beaut on a cold day. I think that I may need to get a pair on my new bike as the breaks in my hands are starting to ache a bit in the cold.)

Well done Riffer/Celtic/Simon. I just hope you don't have to get a different bike in the immediate future...

I always thought these (while styling not to my taste) were great bikes & seriously cheap for what you get. Thought I should buy one as a replacement for my touring bike one day. That day was a year ago & I’m very happy so far.

When I have some time I’ll spiel off the mods I’ve made so far, but before I forget Tridon thermostat p/n TT2003-195 (at supercheap I guess or wherever) will allow the temp gauge to move off cold quicker & run hotter where it carburettes better. The std one is a crazy 76 degrees + it has 4 whacking great extra holes in it. Just drill one hole in the top of replacement so it bleeds (copy the std one, it sits horizontally, just under RHS fairing cover by tank).

Stiffened the rear by swapping spring from other bike & the front by cutting the springs down.

Oh & lowered the pillion pegs.

Conti force tyres seem to suit it better than Metzs for some reason.

    Re new baby

Very nice bike Simon, hope all is well now, sent you a pm after the fire, not sure if it got to you, it would seem there is the odd techo glitch on Kb from time to time, or maybe its just what happens to humble non geeks when they play with things they don't fully understand.

Hope you get heaps of good rides on this new baby.
