Hey YellowDog, The thing about this is George said his mother put a "Curse" on this bike, and this is his third off, this one being the biggest.

You would think he would learn from his mistakes and move on, but .......no.

Grusomhat that maybe the case, I think I made a better (Tail End Charlie (TEC)) then Leader......LOL

Conditions on the ride were ideal and the whole area is marked at 100KPH with advisory signs for all the corners & curves.....not once did I speed, but some of the corners & curves are marked at 30 KPH.............you can guess the rest

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Maki you do have to look out for yourself, this is true........this whole area is bad for bike crashes and this guy in particular will not lead a ride, but is happy to run a close second, now the other problem is we cant get ride leaders.

So I step up to lead a ride, and I can ride.....I will admit that LOL, now as close as he was to the back of my bike, I'm thinking if something goes wrong he will take me out, he said to me after the crash "I took my eye's off the road and looked in the mirror".........BIG MISTAKE to do that at that point in time dont ya think.

He locked the front end up, laid it on its side then as it went over the edge it stood up again (really steep)

The point of this thread must be the valuable lessons it contains.

    1. Ride within your capabilities, regardless of what other people in the group ride happen to be doing.

    2. Do not ride too close to other riders in a group ride. You run the risk of taking them out should something unexpected happen. You will also be distracted by the fact that you have to constantly keep close tabs on were the others are and this kind of distraction is sometimes bad for your health.

You might also consider this. If you are the designated leader of a ride and find that someone is following you too closely you may want to just let them pass and discuss things with them at the next stop...

There is some very good information about group rides on this site. I suggest people who go on such rides read it.
    Ride fast or be last.

What worries me now is people trying to keep up.......way beyond there capabilities. I've been riding for 37 years now (and i'm very tied now lol) 8 years road race training (Circuit Racing) the rest on public roads.

A good friend of mine (George) binned his bike today on the Reefton Spur, high speed binning off over the edge, bike crashed into a tree flipped him off into another tree.

I came running back thinking the worst after hearing the crunch, I thought he was dead.

When I had seen how he was wrapped around a tree on the ground and there were sign's of movement, I'm thinking he's ok......which he was to a point.

Points of interest :- (1) Where we ride we have no phone reception.
(2)George runs his Yamaha without insurance.
(3)This bike killed his brother!..........George rebuilt the bike and now the thing is trying to kill him
Bikes dont kill riders, the riders kill themselves (or others kill the rider).

I feel sorry for bikes which get blamed for stuff. Must be a hard life being a bike. Going out in all kinds of weather, doing everything that you are told to then getting blamed when it all goes pear shaped.

    I'm glad he is ok.

I am only using the term losely, that the bike is a "Killer" because of the "Curse" that has been placed on it....(If you believe in that sort of thing)

And as for the Title of this Thread that came to mind because of a friend of mine...........cause she says "IT didn't happen if you don't have photos"

I see, and I apologies for my earlier statement. I do stand behind the idea that if someone is leading a ride and others are pushing to keep up then the leader needs to be proactive and take action. People do also need to take personal responsibility for their own ride which is everyone else has been saying.

Anyway hope your mate is ok and good luck with Saturday.

I have tried to cover all the issues in the rider briefing, but you are going to get at least one who is going to stuff it up for everyone else, and with George on different rides (not as technical) I indicate so he can blast off and over take me, because he likes to ride fast and its his choice.

    Cheers Bruce
