1. Mark and Andy decide how to best balance Steve's dismantled bike in the main street of Raetihi. Luckily I located a large baulk of timber before Mark cramped up.
2. Steve and Andy muck around with the rear hub in the Bright's back workshop. Watching and "helping" cost extra time and money. Ace workshop and engineer - recommended.
3. Steve, Bart and Andy reinstalling the newly rebuilt rear wheel. Seeing this now, hard to understand how I usually manage this task on my own!
4. Tongariro and Ngaurahoe from 42 Traverse.
5. Regaining strength at Owhanga after the double crossing (not shown - Steve removing and emptying out his boots shortly after). Ace cafe - recommended.
6. Instructions at the end of "Fisher Road" (street sign in town) and the start of Fisher's Track.

Sh*t doesn't just "happen". There is always an a*sehole involved.
1. Abandoned farm buildings off Fishers Track, presumably once accessed from it when it was a maintained road.
2. The team at the west end of Fishers Track. All except myself and Steve returned the way we had come.
3.Steve heads north up Upper Retaruke Road - after leaving the west end of Fisher's Track. Steve and I made our way back to Taumarunui via some beautiful gravel roads with the low sun behind us - magic.
4.Clown’s café in Raetihi IS closed but Mark (and I) will be very pleased to know that "Angel Louise" is up to scratch as a replacement destination (and the owner is keen to emphasise that she will open up the courtyard for bike parking if anybody want their bike secure while sipping espresso)
I had an absolutely brilliant ride down the old Wanganui (Whanganui?) River Road on Sunday - perfect weather. First time for me, although I did ride from Raetihi to Pipiriki and back in 1980 (on a Honda 400/4!). Had a late lunch right back where we started from - Horseman's in Shannon.
Great ride and company, sufficient to deliver full on PAD (Post Adventure Depression) Monday at work. Thanks for being the one who made the effort to initiate this Mark.

Bloody KTM designers.
I replaced the centrestand with the sidestand (for this weekend), thinking this would be better for the 42nd, Fishers & the Old Whanga Rd. You can't have both at once. The sidestand 'lean' was excessive, and the foot too small, and so it sank everywhere we parked that was the least bit soft. Plus it's shit when your wheel bearings collapse....
Luckily I had the retracting hazard cone (of silence) on hand., to warn the unwary.
MarkS makes a brilliant replacement centrestand. Like that 60 seconds ad. '.. then just walk away'. Think we came back in a 1/2 hr or so....
