    Yeah?

I've lived in both Aussie and Alaska - neither of those countries require regular inspections

Personally I find the six month roll around ridiculous

Especially when one of my vehicles gets used about twice in that period.

Just another example of NZ's $$ sucking bureaucracy if you ask me

Snow White is pregnant. Happy is happy. Grumpy is grumpy. Guess who rooted her, and guess who's going to be paying the child support.

I agree, but what's the point in doing it if it fails at one VTNZ station, and passes at another without anything having been touched. My frustration is about the lack of consistancy and using tools with expired calibration certs.

    Heres a few thoughts Gubb,
Read your post last night and its been flying round in my head. Bloody Kiwibiker! LOL!
Dunno if this will work but it makes sense in my head "SORT of"??

    Use the system

Send them a bill for lost time say two hours plus travel. Your quite within your rights to send them this, as evidenced by there own issue of the warrent on the same day as they initially wasted your time!

That's say 2 x $100 plus $100 travel (or whatever hourly rate you can justify)
Builder would be $50 Lawyer would be $250 per hour etc.

So thats an invoice for lost time for say $300.
They won't pay, so Debt collect them. (If you win your case this will stay on their record)
They won't pay that so its small claims or court.
Then let the judge decide! (this is what you where aiming for anyway, unless they pay up of coarse)

The way I read it, you have a good case, the issue of the warrant on the same day is all the evidence you need as to the pointlessness of the exercise, and length of time at the previous visit.
Secondly in court you can ask questions like How long does a warrant usually take? It'll be 20mins, so the 2 hours it took for your to fail, will look like the prat was looking specifically for a problem not just ticking the normal boxes etc That'll also to prove your case.
I also think its important to not treat this as two branches you went to VTNZ not xxx branch and xxx branch so that also proves a systemic failure in their system costing you the loses on your invoice. Of coarse you go for more costs and lost time in taking it to court if you win. This also can be explained quietly but firmly when they first ring you up to query why the invoice in the first place! Its now a game, the shoes on the other foot, your the puppet master, and your wasting their time!!

Look I haven't got time to embellish further but as I see it, this approach causes most pain and least amount of time wasting on your part.

That'll teach the old prick with the wasted life with a small wage and a lot of power and the guys who stood by and let it happen (incl his boss) a freckin good lesson even if you loose!

Just an idea, dunno if it will work but others here may know??
It would help a lot if your in business for yourself I'd imagine. Good luck! Dunno if it will even fly, but its only a piece of paper and 15mins in the start anyway and it will cause a bit of grief for the old prat with the power trip. Don't forget he probably does it 5 times a week to some poor sod!!

PS add a 1/2 hour for me will ya I've just lost 1/2 hour of architectural design charge out writing this LOL!!

There are some good thoughts there and the sentiment is right, but I don't think that "their own issue of the warrent [sic] on the same day" is "evidence" that you have the right to invoice them for your time.

I'm no lawyer, but I doubt you would get anywhere with this. They haven't engaged your services and so I doubt that you could collect on any invoice issued. I also doubt that Veda would collect the debt for you. The law already has recourse for this situation and you mentioned it later - the Small Claims Tribunal.

It would be nice if it did work that way though - I would be rich (and probably poor all at the same time).

    yeh mate cool! LOL!!!

Was just a few thoughts, others may comment!
That treatment would have me fuming, although I do work with Councils a lot so I have to be very patient and not upset them, as my next client may suffer because of a previous debate! Very fine line some days LOL!!
At least there are other options for a Warrant!

Most of the states in Aus require regurlar vehicle inspections, or they require you to keep a vehicle road worthy which the police have been known to set up checkpoints specifically to check for.

I took my bike into the Hastings VTNZ on Saturday. Got there by 8 am (opening time), paid for my warrant, lined her up. Then along comes Jo Blogg to tell me that they are really sorry, as there is no one on duty today to do my warrant.........WTF!!!! Why take the money, and then say - oh we are very sorry!.

They did not refund the money, but gave me a VTNZ voucher. So I rush off to Napier and get it done there - the most simplest warrant I have ever had - they hardly checked anything!

Lucky for me, all else went smooth, as I had a buyer coming down from the big smoke to buy it. And she's gone now.

The Guys in Napier at top end of Taradale road are ok , there are one or two bike guys working there.

On the opposite note my Ex turned up with her Holden a year or so back saying it had been making a funny noise when stopping , cant be the brakes she said just been and got a new warrant at testing station.
rear pads were down to metal and fronts just about gone 2 . This is a 4 wheel disk car with alloys so the pads arent invisable . 1 minute with a mirror and torch , dont mind them being tough as long as they are looking at the right things! not failing you because you have run the washer bottle dry ( yes they do this ) .

Took my car to VTNZ in levin almost a year ago i guess... Had some driving lights i had just installed. Get told they are too bright. so i go and change them. A week later, Go back and they now tell me that they have to turn off when i turn my headlights on.. Being a teenager in a sporty looking car but not powerful or modified or anything, Gives them reason to pick on me?

Makes me laugh to be honest.. They missed the broken engine mount, They missed the CV joints being stuffed.. 2 most important things you need when driving.. Is an Engine and turning wheels..

Took my car to Eckerslies Auto's 6 months ago with one of my Driving lights out and with the Relays stuffed, They wouldnt turn out when i turned my headlights on.. Took my car for a drive and he didnt even pick up on my steering being out of alignment..

So either VTNZ like picking on me and are blind stubborn Cu*ts or Eckerslies are dodgy buggers

Classics that VTNZ have caused me.

    Corona:
    - Brake light full of water, so i go home drill a hole in the bottom of it, wait for it to redry - then retest it to pass
    - Headlight height too high, so i drive around block, let out air pressure and do retest.

    Chevanne:
    - Rust....all around edges. So I paint whole car with house paint, edges gone.

I don't even know what should I do like the officer now saying,by looking at the mistakes you took before, what the test lied suppose to be the fact.
I should really record the test in that day.

Even though VTNZ aren't supposed to breath test you, I'd say stop drinking before the test.
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
