Fire Extinguisher substitute

Hi all - putting a fire extinguisher on your bike or back pack is a pain but necessary for a lot of off raod events - I was wondering if anybody knew if one of these would be a suitable substitute, and organisers would agree to instead? A lot easier to carry in a back pack (and land on when you crash)....

no it would doubt that it would be suitable,

the forestry owners dictate that a extinghushier is what they want carried, so that is what the organisers will enforce,

it is not that much of a hassle to carry one on a bike or on yourself,

what scott said - allthough that blanket would probably have a better chance of putting out a fire! but the forest owners insurance co's make the rules, so we best follow them

on the topic of mounting extinguishers- this came up a few weeks ago and theres a thread about it- but mounting on the front guard on the bracket works really well.

thanks all - just for information the 4 hours cross country coming up with Bushriders (november 14/15) - they require fire extiunguishers, but have also said the blanket will suffice. Guess its horses for courses and check with your organiser.
I'm just not a fan of putting extinguishers on my front fender and in any case I reckon a blanket would be better. 0.3kg extinguisher lasts what, 5 seconds?

lol. Nah man. A big bladder would be good though!

Think about it, it's not going to get into any crevases, just cover the object you put it on.

They work by removing the Oxygen element from the old fire triangle, or tetrahedron if you wanna get into it.

If you lift the blanket up off a pot of oil that you have covered too early it will flash again, as the heat and fuel is still there and you have given it o2 again.

So when you think about it like this, the fire blanket for your purpose will not be suitable, as it won't remove the o2 from the fire your trying to extinguish (ie ya bike)

And yes the blanket can actually burn itself.

Here s the thread re this. Ive mounted mine on my number board - hav a look at pic. Never has it moved.
