Poll: Who has not claimed on ACC?

What about pol for how many of us have a car & a motorcycle.

That means we are paying ACC twice !

I would think 80% of us here with bikes over 600cc would have a car and a bike

maybe I should drain the petrol out of my Firestorm and weld pedals on it.
As a cyclist I dont have to pay ANYTHING to use the roads!

Could I use the bike lanes?

Got tee boned by a car that did not give way at a giveway sign ( sorry I did not see you!!), just last month. 7 days in hospital and off work till early next year, at the least.
Wrote off my BMW and did major damage to my lower right leg ( bullbars should be banned!!). So I am one of those buggers that are forcing up the ACC premium. The funny thing is that only 3 hours before the accident I had been in and registered the bike and said to the girl behind the counter "here is my donation to ACC". So I am costing ACC tens of thousands of dollars because some car driver did not see me. Oh well at least he has got a bent bullbar and a broken indicator lens!!
The car driver will loose his license and get a big fine, being charged with reckless use causing injury.
I think, as an insurance company, ACC should pursue him for compensation, just as my bike insurance is going to.
That's my rant over.

33 and counting years riding with no claims. Currently 2 bikes over 601cc and a car (not to mention work vehicle as well).
2 claims with ACC in my whole life neither motorcycle related or ongoing.

25+ years driving, never had an accident except for scraping a bumper on a pole. Had a few minor offs riding when I was younger but had minimal damage and it made me smarter about falling off. Pain can do that. No ACC where those happened anyway. Took a break from riding and returned a few years ago. No speeding tickets, no offs, no plans to change that if I can help it.

I have claimed ACC for a non-work, non-vehicular accident. Got no salary cover, just medical costs. Would have been paid for by the state anyway as I couldn't afford the operation. I have had two rounds of short-term physio, at least partly subsidised.

I'd have to do the sums but I'm pretty sure for me total contributions minus total claims, so far, would be a positive number.

EDIT: Particularly true if I consider I've been paying both car and bike levies, plus the rest.

I got T boned outside a hospital.

1 X ray and 3 Physio sessions.....and I've been paying levies on 2 cars and 2 bikes for 4 years (before that I was in UK)

I have overpaid and want a refund.

Never had a claim, but if i do ver have to id rather that its there for me. Not to bludge off, but to genuinely help me if i ever need it. And i dont mind if i dont, cos someone will..

Yup. We got good treatment. But sometimes whilst standing and watching them treat my family I'd hear things like. "Should we get her an MRI scan?" "Nah! Too expensive, don't really need it." "It's an ACC claim." "Go ahead then".

The long term claims by my wife were the worst. It seemed they expended more money on super-duper specialists trying to disprove she had a claim than they did in actually treating her!

I'm glad I got good treatment for my family in that case.

I'm just not sure that long term, including non-ACC medical expenses, that I'm getting best value for my medical expense dollars.

I've made 2 claims to ACC in my whole entire life.

First time... when I was about 12 years old I stubbed my toe and grew an ingrown toe nail... damage... $130 ACC bill. And mummy and daddy paid $25ish for doctors fee.

Second time (very dangerous)... I was about 17 years old, and tried to get out of bed one day and pulled some neck muscles... damage... 7 visits to physio (probably about $280).

Now when I had my first bike, 250cc, didnt look after it and chain bumped off sprocket coming around a corner(20kph)... damage... late to work by 5 minutes/$400 bill for new chain and sprockets, front brake lever, rear brake pads and wof. NO CLAIM TO ACC (because i didnt injure myself)

Crashed a holden commodore when I was 17 years old and wrote it off... damage... $250 towing fee/car cost me $2000/$150 fine from police/hurt pride. NO CLAIM TO ACC (because I didnt injure myself).

Something tells me that day to day living is more dangerous than owning/operating a vehicle.

ACC needs to starting putting levies on people who go to beaches and wake up on the wrong side of bed according to my statistics.

I feel this will be good to put into my complaints letter to john key etc.

Forty five years of riding and have never had an ACC claim of any sort yet. I have been paying ACC levies on two cars, four bikes and a percentage of my income for many years now so they have had enough out of me.
This new proposal is totally rediculous and will cost me a small fortune especially as i can only operate one vehicle at a time. If this levy increase goes ahead then they can go and get fucked as i will not register my bikes.
Enough is enough.

what a crock of shit excuse the laungue but god dam, here's a idea get the bludger's (long time scamers)of the acc benifit. Ive heard of pple geting houndreds of thousands spent on their homes vechiles by acc, yet now were coping the bill.

i see alot of rego's of hold in the near futute, no plates and no one stoping good on ya acc you achived

Part of the issue with making the changes talked about here is that ACC is done on the registration of the bike. So you can't really give a disocunt to someone who has had on accidents, or done an advanced rider training course.

Sometimes more two or more people ride a single bike (aka share its use).

Perhaps we need to build ACC into licences, and move to annual driver licencing (yucky!).
Or maybe just move to larger petrol ACC levies instead of ACC on regos.

That would get around the "multiple bikes" and the "bike not used much" issues

It is probably the best way forward out of this mess

Dont fall into any of the categories, but only ACC claim was work related (and that was a major claim). Been riding for just shy of 3 years though, and only had one minor accident.

I've been riding nearly 36 years, and I've had no claims in the last 7 years, but have had one prior to that, for physio treatment for an accident that was not my fault. My ACC fees have more than paid for treatment received.
