I tried it recently, had my R80G/S on there for a week, it got about 40 views.
Have had the same bike on trade me for 3 days, 357 views so far.

Why is it a ripoff? it's a business not a charity. What would it cost for you to auction it elsewhere with the same exposure?

7 days with 30 views vrs 3 days and 395 views is a big difference, the price isn't a lot to me if it sells.

Why does a bike cost 29 automatically?

Why if I sold something of the same value, say a stereo, would the fee be a percentage?

If you want to pay that for my XR I would gladly drop 29 bucks. But when what I am selling is rather low in value......

Mainly, I think it's because for items like bikes, cars and houses, which incur a set fee, people generally want to make contact and see the item before buying. Once they make contact, there's nothing to stop them from making the deal privately and get out of paying trademe a success fee.

So... they have to charge for listing up front, then people are free to exchange contact numbers, meet etc... and if they charge up front, how would they know how much the item's gonna go for? So they've come up with a set fee... $29 for bikes, $169 (I think) for property etc...

I know people do exchange contact numbers in other auctins as well, but they're *not supposed* to... I don't work for trademe, and am abit pissed off at the high prices, but I understand why they do it...

They are the biggest online marketplace in NZ, so until someone else finds a way to get the same amount of listings and viewings... they'll still have the monopoly...

Have tried sella. But nothing happens. Sadly. So TM it is until there is a change.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Ummm, many more buyers would see your bike on trademe, it isn't hard to believe that you may be able to get $500 or more extra on the sale - suddenly the $29 fee looks like a freakin' bargain!

It's a rip off, they were making a healthy proffit before they raised the prices shitloads. It used to be cheap to sell stuff there, and now that there is more business there you think they need to charge more to turn the same figure, not less? Australian wankers.

Yup agreed. Trademe are a bunch of wankstains

But i find them to be the best online site out there for getting your shit sold, as does every other NZer. As someone said about getting 40 views in a week. Sella just doesnt get used.
Also i tend to find that things such as cars and bikes are just put on Sella as it is free so they might put their used and abused 250 on for 5k and if someone bites then hey, they sell it.

TradeMe is just so huge! My 80yr old Grandpa has never touched a computer in his life. He hardly knows how to use his fancy new heat pump. Yet he knows about TradeMe and last month sold his ElCam on there. He even gave his Neighbor commission for listing
