To be totally honest I don't really give a shit if the ACC levy gets ridicilous, if the petrol costs more than beer at the pub, if bikes disappears totally out of mainstream.

I still ride. Alone. On a noisy old big cc bike. And wave to the ones who ride because that is what they want to do, not because it is a cheap transport, it is quick through the congested streets, parking is easy or, god forbid, the battery bikes are given free to anyone with a rasta hairdo.

It's a fair enough point, but most NZers use their bikes more for fun than as a cheap mode of transport because cars are so cheap here and bikes are so expensive. In a lot of other countries, especially Asian countries, people there tend not to ride motorbikes just for fun. They ride because it's much cheaper to run a CG125 than a car. So the motorcycle culture in other countries is made up by people who can't afford a car or when roads are too congested.

The way the ACC Levy pricing structure is: they want us to become like other countries, with massive costs to ride a large capacity bike, and huge increases to mopeds.

Big bikes and scooters both have strong 'scenes' in the west. Both classes have strong monetary disincentives now.....

Its just the global one size fits all mantra like supercity and fuck regional and fringe culture. How unique and individual can we be, all riding 125 autoclutches like in SE Asia??
