Keep in mind this is not just about higher charges to motorcycleists, but also an attack on the motorcycle industry, that does supply alot of bikes for work purposes in Taranaki, ie farm bikes.
Road bike sales may not be as large in Taranaki, but if ACC was to effectivly quash road riding, then the costs of off road riding would have to go up to make up for the short fall, and many bike dealerships may have to close, because overheads would be to great.

This is a reality - I was talking to one of the major dealers in Taranaki the other day, he showed me his sales figures YTD compared to last year, down 60%! And I'm sure he's not alone.
Things are just starting to pick up with the recession gloom receding and some summer weather on the way and then the industry gets hit with this.

Whether BRONZ picks this up or not, MOTORCYCLISTS across NZ need to pull together to fight these proposed changes. Most will agree that Nick Smiths' figures appear to be based on what are, at a minimum, flawed statistics.

If these increases in ACC levies go ahead, it will force many bikers either off the road, or to run the gauntlet with no rego (and like as not, no warrant either). We, as a significant sector of the road-using public, have to ensure that that any changes are based on sound, audited figures, and that the processes are transparent. Local (National Party) MP's also need to be reminded that most bikers are voters as well - we each have 2 votes at an election, electorate and party. Some electorates are close enough battles that the bikers vote can swing an entire election around.

I've put my hand up to try to get the ball rolling here in New Plymouth. What is needed right now is for a few to come forward with sound ideas to take our views to the local MP's. Like most, I have a job and a family to worry about as well, I cannot, as much as I'd like to, dedicate 100% of my time to this cause. So if you are really willing to get involved, PM me for my mobile number and let's get talking.

If BRONZ (or anyone else for that matter) decides to coordinate a nationwide process, then it's easy for us to fall in if or as necessary. In the meantime, lets get Taranaki's bikers moving on this NOW.

BTW, Jonathan Youngs electorate office is on the corner of Liardet St and Gill St - that would be the logical end point for a ride, but from where and when?

    Thumbs up :)

once times, and route for the ride is established, it would be good to advertise in newspaper, or in local motorbike shops, to spread the word. Cause im not sure how many of the naki's bikers use this website.
id like to help where i can, but im only young... (17 yrs). i guess im here to make the numbers lol

Taff, good to see you sorting out NP. Well done for putting your hand up mate. For a taranaki ride post details and I'll passt it to all south naki riders that I know.
For the Welly ride ( once a date is decided ) I anticipate everyone joining in as the ride moves south.

I'm at Action Suzuki in hawera if you ( or anyone else ) is passing.

Have PMed you Taff. Count me in if we can get a decent amount of riders together and I can probably do something in helping organise if needed

Have now got a couple of non-KBers onside, just trying to establish when our local MP will be on deck - little point in trying to take a message to him if he's in Wellington. So far the best suggestion made is to have 2 groups of riders (north and south Taranaki) converge on the outskirts of NP and ride in to the city centre to the electorate office. More as I learn more

Good on you for the "behind the scenes" stuff you're doing, Taff!

    Ditto for me

Also do we have a local Ulysses and/or BRONZ member onboard so we can coordinate with whatever actions they are planning?

are you planning on doing the wellington run? if so, i would be happy to tack on to the end as it passes through wanganui. depending on the days of course. like, if you are planning on passing through on sunday, then i cant meet up, but could for monday or whenever.

It'd be a pretty fair bet that there will be a contingent from the Naki (possibly including King Country and beyond who travel via SH3) but I suspect details are undecided and on a 'need to know' basis at this point

Anyway, the more the merrier so keep yourself posted on progress via this thread.
