just looking on the vtnz and ltsa site and noted this was interesting

Do all vehicles have to be licensed continuously?
All motor vehicles must be continuously licensed while using the road, except for the following:

vehicles that are more than 40 years old

there are some other exceptions but this was the interesting one

Yes this effectively means if you let the license lapse, when you do pay it you don't pay back fees back to the date it lapsed.

So on Friday I went to the postshop, got an MR27 (application to change license expiry date), and got two months of license for my 50 year old vespa, just to go to a rally at Labour Weekend. It lapsed in April. No back fees. Ideal for vintage bikes that may only get used for a few months of each year.

Ms Piggy - I saw that you were joining the ride in central Wgtn. That's my intention too - but I would like to ride as a group for part of the way. I remember seeing something about a meetup point maybe on Aotea Quay for scooterists and people who can't go on the motorway to join the convoy. I'm coming from the Basin Reserve and was planning on arriving at Parliament early to take photos of the arrival.

Check with StoneY about the meeting point for scooters. Sorry I can't be of more help.

not deleted, just some mod merged the threads!

I've just reinstated it. Looks like it was accidentally deleted at 4.20pm.

Can't delete protect it without making it invite only editing, which would defeat the purpose of publishing it for people to register. Have added notification so I will get emailed when ever any changes are made. Also am doing regular download copy backups.

got this reply from ltsa

The maximum time you can licence a vehicle for is 15 months, however the new licence cannot be used for a period that would make the current licence exceed 15 months from the date of application. You can lodge an Application to Change Licence Expiry Date (form MR27) at an agent for the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA). The fees are calculated when the MR27 form is lodged at the agents and includes an administration fee of $7.30.
