Well I was one of the newbies who didn’t put my hand, and it wasn’t because of being bigheaded, it was because I wanted the experience of group riding before the wellington run,

I had done a bit of home work, had some idea, of what’s expected on a group ride so I thought, all was needed was to participate, put it all into practice. (yeh right)

It seems newbies weren’t being allowed to ride, with the ‘in crowd’ no we were singled out, to ride another route.

That left me feeling disappointed, and embarrassed about my inexperience, and I was not going to be singles out to ride my 1200cc bike in 3rd gear behind scooters all the way to Hastings.

The way I saw it that left no options for me to ride with a group, so I left pissed off with it all.

So I don’t blame inexperienced riders for joining the main group, if they felt like I did.

I rode the toy run, first time, and first group run, had a wonderful time, was blown away by the experience, and I thought the 200 riders behaved really well.

The scooters/classic bikes DID ride in staggered formation...you could have had the experience of riding in a group that was small and comfortable and safe.
What am I ? Someone with ESP?

The scooters were escorted by a scooter, a 750 and a 500. What is your problem...we aren't good enough for you to ride with?
As Mstrs says...what the hell are you doing riding a 1200 when you don't have experience....surely you should be on a 250.

Sorry you felt like that. But if you did do your homework, then you would have understood that there was 2 groups: One for scooters and bikes NOT able to do 100k/h and one for the rest. The "hands up" was in regards to if someone did not know what staggered riding was, nothing else.

On KB all this was clearly explained in this thread even, and in other places. Perhaps you need someone to check that you have done your homework...

You coming to Welly tomorrow? If so, I will see you tomorrow morning and make a point of coming to say Hi.

you have no idea of the story, behind this bike, and therefore, have no right to chastise me for riding it. Just for the record, I would not ride anything I couldn’t handle.

For me, riding is a constant learning curve,which I love, and the way I saw it, I wanted to join the protest, get the experience of group riding. The way I saw it, the instructions gave me neither.

However, as I said, if I got the instructions wrong, which I obviously did, then I unreservedly opologise.

Hmmmm. Sorry you felt like that. There will be the option for two riding groups for the ride from Green Arena to Woodville tomorrow. One via the main road and one via HW50. If you want to ride with a group join us. You will get 4 hours of experience by the time you get to Wellington. With this one you will have all the experience you need to organise these rides. By then you can organise the next ride and I hope you don’t upset anybody. It would be nice to have new hands to do the work and let some of us older rider, just ride. Come along with the group in the morning.

I note we had no crashes. Could that be cos the thing was well organised?

I do not want to offend you but when you are the organizer of a ride you have to question the ability of the people you have along. If one rider gets in to somthin they can't handle it can be disastrous. I have worked with this crew organizing rides for a few years and I know, from experience that as an organizer you need to know. We will never win cos people growl about the fact that they couldn’t ride and others about the fact that they got in too deep and couldn’t cope. Lets, let this go and just get tomorrow out of the way. Welcome along and I don’t think anyone is attacking you personally. We react to things not as they are but as we are and in that we lose the perspective of things going on around us.
