Which bikes would you recommend for Hunting ?

Im looking at getting a bike for hunting trips - which bikes would you recommend ?
Req : Not too heavy so I can pick it up
Not a tall bike as lots of getting on and off
    Carriers would be good
    WOF and REG
Carrying quite a bit of gear needs to be able to take the strain
E start and decent lights would be good but adds weight
Reliable as will be left outside overnights
    Dosent need to be fast
Budget : around 2k but could increase for perfect bike

Looking to park up and then ride or ride somewhere and then hunt?

I had a dr250, E and kick start. Mate had a XLR 250 kick only and did it a couple of times. Both trailering and riding outright to the hunt. Both bikes were reliable in the cold and wet. Mates was left out in the snow overnight after he broke a lever and it started second kick after we brushed the snow off. Gear the bikes low as you can. Get bush bars to look after your levers and don't be afraid to carry a spare of each. Loading weight onto the bike can make it a dog in tricky stuff, so we carried on our backs.

Where you hunting? Whakamarama? Local forests / roads?
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

    Yep....

I sort of went the more money AG, as most aren't read legal but it is easy to make them I suppose.....BUT, getting one with the VIN and all set would be better. You do pay more though I guess....

I think they are cool bikes.....pity they aren't 350cc or something.....Low/High ratio etc....

    DR200.

You can get a real tidy one for only a little over your budget, with a rack and if you look around with brush guards over the levers as awell, and the come with headlight guards.

They come with all the road gear but like the ag100's most are not reg & wof'd.

Reg's and wof'd one, no rack though $2500

And they look like a proper off road bike.

    CT90 with high/low ratio box.
Throw it over fences, drag it up slippery banks etc.
They are robust, and hardy. Hard to find one though that hasn't been snapped up already by.............hunters.

I think it sort of came about with that competition with 'who makes the Fastest Sports Bike' etc....at the time it was Honda, then Suzuki with the DR650....(this is for Joe)
Then Joe had to get the limiter put on it and......
