Yup looks like I will be sitting this one out.

I'll need to save up to be called poor......

And having all that money just sitting there for 9+ months just does not add up. And I do not even have that much space......

The chap wants to sell the bike asap and he already has another offer.

So if I wait for the govt. cocks to decide the bike will be gone. And I don't think I'll pass as I'm only 5"10 and about 75kgs.........

I agree with BJ that there will always be good 400's around, and cheap compared to OK 250's, be patient, in 9 months you will be able to buy a newer bike for the same price!?!

Quit talking down the mighty 'ZZR's please guys!! the fact that they are 2cyl means they are a great bike for riding through traffic as they pull from idle, and they have plenty of pull through to 170!!!
weighing in at 138kg they are one of the lighter 250's (around 5kg can then be saved by fitting a 2-1 pipe), relusting in a whole lot of fun in the twisties! although I've yet to test my skills against another 250 (yes zxr250 skinned me on Takas, I'd only been riding for 3 weeks then.. .) I have not had any issues keeping up with bigger bikes on the rides I have attended. so I dont feel any need for more power till I can get my knee donw on ANY corner I WANT to get some sparks from!!
ZZR's with a little incouragment will easily, wheelie and stoppie (with and without pillion), and scrape the pegs (or pipe ) before any unplesant charecteristics show!!

That said I do like the idea of trying a few different 250's so I know what to look for when I start test riding bigger bikes. just the pillion doesn't like the idea of being perched way above me on the back of something RR
The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where he is going....

patience is what I'd advocate... patience.

9 months ain't that long and if you did buy it and insure it and... well it means that insurance would be a waste of money (so don't bother), your licence would be on the line, etc etc

Riff Raff said it best... patience. The deal of a lifetime comes along once a week. It's true of houses, and it's true of bikes.

My suggestion is to keep saving for 9 more months. It minimises the amount of interest you pay if you need to borrow any. You also have the time to look aroundand get a good deal closer to the time.

If there is no other urgency to upgrade your bike (other than you want THIS ONE - NOW) I'd seriously suggest biding your time, keeping an eye open, and jump on that bargainwhen you see it come along, and you can afford it (legally and financially).

Patience and work on your corner speed! Imagine you're on a wee GP125 against a bunch of SuperBikes and work up towards taking them on from the outside! There's heaps to be learned from the ZZR yet!

    Yup.

You see I had completely forgotten the difference in rules for under 25's under the CBTA system. I thought I could get my license instantly. But now after talking to the person at Passrite. It looks like Feb 06 is the earliest I can get my full.

I decided to post here to see if there was some loop hole........

When I took my dream bike for a test ride it was over $10K (for a second hand BMW R100CS) A few months ago I saw one for $8500 in primo order - I dare say when I have a few grand "spare" there will be the bike I want at a better price than I expect to pay...

well they could look all day at mine as it does not mention anywhere what size my VFR250 is!!! Plus the fact the fairings are mainly not there means they cant even look there!! its on the block but you got get on your hands and knees and peer up in under stuff to see it,

And if you dont ride like a plonk, and treat the cop with respect, you most likely to be let on your way with your ticket for speeding(or whatever random breath check bla bla) and not much else!?

It's not the bloody plonks that worry me. I've only been pulled up thrice in my 6 years on the road. And all three times were due to my stupidity. I've only been penalised once. 63 in a 50 zone.

I don't think the plods will be an issue.

IT'S ONLY NOT BEING INSURED that is a worry. I had to pay some old bitch 2000 to repair a 2500 car which was , my fault alright but still $2000 .....

Imagine if I hit some new holden or something......

Bah, you will have a bloody hard time insuring it.

Just wait - I was going to do that also but realised how silly it was, lucky to because I ended up writing my ZZR off, just wait I'm sure the late model zxr's will get alot cheaper in comming years.

The only reason I wanted a 400 now is cos I believe it's time to start learning how to ride one and that I have less of a problem on the straights while on KB rides.

In a year all will change, lets see.

But I think I will take frosty's advice and see what I can do as far as tracks are concerned.

Honestly tho man, If I was you, i'd get rid of the slow ZZR and get another 250cc bike. Get a CBR/FZR/GSXR 250 and trust me you'll learn more on one than you will on the ZZR and you'll go much quicker too.

If you reckon. "no, I want more speed", then the next easy answer is a 2 stroke 250 cc.

In all honesty, a 400cc sports bike is not a HELL of a lot quicker than 250cc sports bike of a similar discription for the road (not the track). If you are talking 250cc 2 stroke vs a 4 stroke 400cc sports bike, then they should be about the same.

    My 2 cnts worth.

You reckon I (with all the KB help ) could look after a decent 2 stroke??
If so I'll start looking ASAP

It's just that I've heard nothing but bad news about the things......

What do you feel?? Would you buy one if you were me??
    Why?? or Why not??

By the way I would also want to go on as many track outings as I could.
