Though I did make one modification (post-big-badda-boom) to ensure future good behaviour from my less-trusty steed. (oil pump failure resulting in a long walk home)

[1] Take 7-8 bottles of beer
    [2] Take 1 baseball bat.
    [3] Drink beer
[4] Take required screwdrivers, spanners & sockets to remove oil pump.
    [5] Drink beer
[6] Gently toss said oil pump in the air.
[7] Swing baseball bat through the air making the necessary calculations & speed/trajectory adjustments to result in an intersection of the bat's arc with the pump's path.
    [8] Drink beer
[9] Pick up pump off the ground
[10] Repeat 5-8 until resounding CRACK! is heard.
[11] Laugh drunkenly and foolishly as the pump dwindles to a speck and sails happily though a neighbour's glasshouse.
[12] Hide from angry neighbour who turns out to be a big pissed off croatian.
[13] Always mix your oil and petrol by hand from then on.

    Uhmmm... o..k...

An oil pump failure whilst caning my baby through the manawatu gorge left my rings thoroughly welded into the pistons with nothing happening when I twisted the 'go-faster-hoojie-wotsit' on the right handgrip...
I suddenly was stranded somewhere between 'the corner of east bumfuck' and 'you-shore-got-a purty-mouth-boy'. A long walk and the kindness of a stranger with a trailer gave me time to think about how to avoid this in future...
*insert bright light and revelation with angels singing 'tada!'*...

Just mix the goddamn oil into the petrol yourself like they used to way back in the days when men were men and machines knew their places...

Ok course you dont have to pull the oil pump out and hit it with a handy object, (in fact from hindsight I suggest not doing this) but it sure makes you feel better.
Lets go hijack all their camels... and crash them into their tents :raghead:

    Thanks for the info roo........

So if I understand things correctly.

Find a decent 2-stroke with low k's. Treat it to regular oil changes and make sure that the oil to fuel ratio is correct......... and I will have big smiles and trouble free riding??

    Or am I missing something??

This particular technique is usually used in IT a lot. The scientific term is "percussive maintenance".

Indeed. The 'fixing hammer' is an integral part of any serious IT engineer's toolkit.

    Exemptions/legal loopholes, etc.

I would also want to fully insure and ride the bike legally.

I've found this perfect bike, from a genuine owner........ but since I've recently turned 23 and I got my learners at the end of this Jan, it looks like I can only get my full at the end of the year.

Any genuine advice would be seriously appreciated.

and hold the you are too inexperienced rants...... i have no problems with self-control.
You should keep riding the 250

    OR

Let me do to it what I am to do to SniperCBR's bike. Involves welding, wrecked 600 motorcycle, more welding then "Fark Me, that's a lotta horsepower for little wheels, brakes, and suspension!"

Just wait till I get my grubby little hands on his motorcycle!

Do you really want to be getting a faster bike if you havn't got the confidence to lift the front of your ZZR?
I'm not trying to say anything nasty but ummm u only have to sit back a lil and drop the clutch hard then you should be gettin at least a few cms off the ground?!?! I've had the front lifting on my ZZR coming outta a corner in 2nd........and i'm still slow as!!

each to thier own but I'd like to learn how to make my bike perform to its limits before i upgrade....

The only reason I want a faster bike is so I don't always get left behind on the straights......

As for wheelie practice.... I'm working on it.
